Small Dumble-ish combo proposal

Post by rootz »

After having used a 2xEL84 Trainwreck Rocket with reverb clone, I want to turn it into something else. I have the strong feeling a low plate classic front end would be a much better pedal base than a AC30 derivate. And I want a new project off course, to fill the long autumn evenings. That's probably most important lol.

I'll be reusing everything available, except for capacitors and resistors.

The proposal is the following:
Low plate classic front end, without PAB and rock/jazz, but with deep, mid and bright switches.
2 tube Fender reverb
Half Dumbleator as effects return
Dumble PI (820r/22k/390r tail)
Fixed bias EL84 pair @ 350/370V

PT Hammond 370FX, 15H 414r choke, Marshall 18W OT clone.

All in an old valve state combo with a EVM12S.

The proposed schematic is attached. Currently finishing the layout of this 'thing'.

What do you think about the design? Can you spot any fatal mistakes or thing I should pay more attention to?

Hey Rootz, it looks interesting but the schematic is not user friendly : I cannot open it. Could export your file in a different format?

It's just a screenshot, an image, are you unable to view the image?

It's indeed just a screen shot. The original schematic is attached, but I can't attach the layout. Both are made in Cadsoft Eagle.

Currently tinkering with Visio to make a complete chassis layout. Lot's of working in Windows, yikes! Didn't miss all the crashes when working on a Mac.

Oh odd, I open it and it's very large and has the ability to zoom in more, so it's very clear. Maybe the problem is that it's so large and on mobile it doesn't look good by default. Try pinch to zoom to zoom in more?

Got caught up by work the past few months, so shelved the project. Did find some time to do a Visio layout and order a new chassis lately though. Have been thinking about my latest design I published here and decided it'd be a much safer bet to do some kind of JM amp with an EL84 power section. That schematic is tested and tried and would form a good pedal platform too.

So here's the layout. I hope I'll find the time and money to order the parts soon.

I didn't check it for correctness. Tracing layouts makes my whole head hurt. But I do wonder if you really want to stuff 6 leads into one eyelet.

Oh well, that seems like a bad idea indeed! Was going by some older layout of AN, but made an update. Building fun should start in two weeks.

The layout can be traced, but really no need to. It's a Wonderland with an EL84 end stage. Need a small practicing amp that is pedal friendly, so figured something simple like this should do the trick. Can even use it for gigs. Even now with an 2xEL84 Trainwreck Rocket the sound guy often complains I'm too loud.

If you've got any suggestions, layout wise or other wise, please feel free.
