Yeah. The 914 is smooth and huge squash. It dumps an undetectable bit of highs and sounds flat and fat.

I have only terrible examples, but I just found me playing a black guard telecaster on Van Halen's birthday through an amp with 1N914 setup and it sounds like the record, but HUGE-ER. Very fat.
yes, 220k anode seems to work. I think Friedman uses 220k (w. 2k7 cathode) on the dirty shirley

I don't understand. You said you like a 220K, to 270K voltage divider (I assume you're talking about the 68K off wiper of gain pot and the other 68K grid stopper)? But now you're saying you like "less" stopper, which would be lower than 68K and much lower than 220K-270K.

And a lower grid stopper, to me, means more high-end. Which doesn't necessarily mean "open tone" but rather = bright. These amps are already super bright, being a 2204. I'm actually trying to find ways to kill some of the brightness, while maintaining clarity. It's a bit of a challenge.

Less plate on a stage means you can moderate the stopper too.

When I started doing this I was having to use brutal stoppers to tame things I didn't know that I didn't need. I was using them as a bandaid, but they are poor patches for 'just too much' in most cases.. 220k stoppers, plate bypassing with way too big caps, face killing caps over the dump side of splitters..

I think my most intense high-gain amp has a total of 100k grid stops between three stages now. umm might be wrong, could be 68k, 27k, 27.. maybe. The amp is ridiculous with the same general topology as your drawing. Uhhh 220k first plate, 150k second.. I should open it up and make some note maybe. I'd probably prove myself wrong, but still in those ranges.

You obviously like it to growl. It sounds angrier if you let the spectrum flow lol

Where you have a 68k divider, that is a pair of 220s or 270s on these couple amps.

That clip you posted sounds excellent though. Many things work and let's be honest.. woohoo! screaming amps rule! lol *ahh thunka thunka*
Signatures have a 255 character limit that I could abuse, but I am not Cecil B. DeMille.

I like the clear heat shrink tubing. But hey... Since you've got the switch wired up... Why not just throw it in?
I know it's only rock and roll, but I like it!

Eh, I feel like I'll find two settings I like and never use the others. I also don't really have room anywhere.

Unless... I can replace one of the output jacks with this thing. Any issues running the leads across the chassis to the master though?
