1963 Bandmaster (finally a round tuit)

Post by Reeltarded »

Swapped OT to Classictone Bassman 4k2 with 4/8/16 taps.

Normal channel is 390p/56k, .022 bass cap, .022 coupling. The first cathode bypass is .68, all other stages ||10u.

Vibe channel is 390/56k and otherwise stock.

The .01s in the LFO are now .022 and it's perfectly slow to match Univibe speed. The low cap in the OSC is noted as 2u but there was a 4u originally and I swapped that for 5u.

The normal channel is cascaded to the vib channel through the vib channel low input. The 270k in the mixer at the channel junction is grounded.

5 triode harmonic vibrato. I finally found a perfect use for EH12AX7s. They operate better than RCAs.. I mean WAY better. The Twin is getting EH after this. They sound shit-tee in a gainy amp but brilliant in a Fender and have never had any set do better in the vib positions.

I can't attach vids. This thing is an organic monster.

Is there an error you're getting? Why can't you attach the videos? Usually, though, its better to upload them somewhere like Youtube or the like and link to the video. You can make video's 'private' and get a link from them and only forum members can see them if you don't want them more publicly seen.

Sounds filthy in finery. Restoration or repro build? Parts collection under wait on 6G4A vibrato-only.

What's this Facebook folk go on about going on?

Best .. Ian

Sounds great thanks for sharing! I love the sound of the fender blackface tone stack when its cranked and when its clean!
I am building a similar tonestack in my CJ11 build. I see you lowered your slope from 100k to 56K, I may have to try this out too.

Cheers

I am not sure what the UPh mods actually are, but they don't distort much. The 63 is a much different amp than the blackfaces and beyond. The reason to care about it is the harmonic vibrato.

The harmonic vibrato is worth doing. That is worth doing. :)

The normal cascaded sounds like a Party Sized Trowerzilla. Bridge of Party Sighs. Plugging into the vib channel with the vib off sounds beautiful and clean until about 4 and then various tones off Exile on Mainstreet. Brash and thuggish. heh

Is that dropbox link working? I can't find a place to upload vids... except youtube. Not gonna happen.

yes, it's mainly a sound thing though isn't it? sounds great by the way.

For sound files try using soundcloud, it's free and works well. I use it for audio demo's, look at my Dumble #102 is a versatile amp thread and you'll see how it works as there's links.

Thanks, I really like where it ended up. I have a soundcloud but it's for songs and my amp noises are pretty much all taken from a formatting nightmare made by Apple. :D

To answer question I missed above, this was an original and unserviced head that I have used very carefully on a variac a few times until recently. Box is dated 5162. Blonde and wheat, late version of the harmonic vibe with CF. I decided to do whatever I wanted with the normal section and stay pretty stock with the vib channel because it's the clean amp in my rig. I run everything through Palmer 04s. I am going to make another cup of coffee and drag a 4x12 out downstairs to make an unprocessed recording. The clean settings are equal to the best I have ever heard from any amp. It wipes the floor with it's Twin Amp brother. Twins are so hollow and stiff. This amp is bold and sweet and warm if you like it that way.

Have you ever looked at slowing down the vib? Just giving it a little more time to bloom made me love it twice as much. A cool switching mod would be para .01/.01, and para .02/.02 over the .01s in the string.

You could upload to vimeo, they have a pretty great video platform and you can share only to those you want as well.

Any video format that you can directly link to online should work with the "video" tag above.

You'd think so.. but I found out differently. The forum refuses .mov file linking. :/
