New original '89 Express Youtube video by GK
Just finished a new Youtube" video with my '89 Express & a Strat.
But it's different this time, a "full band" effort!

Friggin awesome! You really have great touch. And of course killer tone..I think you and your clips probably inspired more people to build a TW Clone than any other single person. Can I ask..and dont take this wrong..I noticed you come here relatively frequently..so obviously arent irked by folks who come here trying to get close to the sound of your amp..without mortgaging their house..what I wonder is is there some reason you dont or wont show pics of your amp's innards??..being Francesca is out, and Ken has passed..god bless his soul..wouldnt think it a big deal at this point..I know many people are a bit wierd when it comes to TW's..I had a guy act all like it was a big secret when he told me he owned 2 originals..lol So I was just curious about that..anyway hope you dont take offense to my asking that..and killer playing and tone as always!! You are a decent sized part of the reason I am trying to build one..even though I dont even really know how..lol. -- Along with the memory of BB playing one years ago that I never forgot how great it sounded--geetarpicker wrote:Just finished a new Youtube" video with my '89 Express & a Strat.

Glen, that was killer. When you pulled those synth-sounds out toward the end of the piece I couldn't believe that was done without effects at first.

Fantastic, Glen!
Having built a Liverpool and slowly getting used to the TW approach, I can't second martinsxxxx call for gut shots.
I don't expect any additional insight.
TW approach imho is not only about early gainstages distorting last.
It is more like a system including player/style, cables, guitars, loudspeakers and venue. Gained a lot of insight by the volume pot thread.
To get the best out of a TW style amp, one would have to tweak the whole system. guitar cables, yada,...
just my 0.02
Ciao

Thanks again, Glen, as always!
It's fun to see you play that track on video, after listening to it many times on your CD. The whole track, yes, sounds great, but I have to say I really love the way the amp carries on for the sustained note at the drum break right before the series of volume swells.
Well, thanks for sharing! Really enjoy your stuff Glen. Looking forward to more in the future.

Thanks folks!
On the subject of posting gut shots. Many years ago I let some folks look in my amp (no pics were taken however) and they actually went on to build some Trainwreck "inspired" amps, albiet with quite a few changes like a rectifier tube, different layout, different caps, etc. They sounded quite different but still decent. However at that time I got a few nasty phone calls from some folks that were basically defending Ken's stuff even though the amps were not true clones at all. At the time Ken didn't really seem to care as the amps were considerably different, but some other folks did care. So... basically I don't let pics out of this amp. Not that I really would feel odd that about it but more concerned that some folks would come back to me that would make an issue of it.
That said my amp is basically the same as Francesca, but with the later black Pacific OT. The only part difference I could find value wise was the smaller bright cap on mine is 50pf, but I don't normally use that anyway. My amp has a different brand of tube sockets, ohm selector, and a few other tiny things. Oh, and some of the wiring is a different color!
Cheers,
GK

Interesting Ken...
I had saved a black Pacific output transformer from a donor amp...can't remember what...maybe a Western Electric amp.
I put it to good use in my Express built last week...
Nice little tranny...stamped TO-35 1052 7038
