Thunderfunk=Trainwreck?
If this has been posted before, sorry.
I just found this: http://www.thunderfunk.com/In_Performance.html
Scroll down. Would Ken Fisher really do this? I find it hard to believe.

Yep, it's pretty well known and discussed here, do a search of the older posts. Funk helped Ken wire up amps when he was falling behind on orders due to health issues.

I think when Funk was wireing those amps they were still in the 1,500-2,000 range not the prices they fetch these day's............

Dave is a well respected expert. I've bought all of his written work and enjoyed all of it. He was an authorized Trainwreck service center, IIRC, the ONLY one. Maybe he still is, I don't know--?

Re: Thunderfunk=Trainwreck?
Well that's pretty cut and dried, you're probably right but...ampdan wrote:Thanks for the replies. Sorry, but if Ken Fisher didn't build it, it's a clone. Period.
The undeniable Real Thing was built by Ken, it has Ken's signature, Ken's fingerprints and labels from Ken's Dymo.
The Ken Approved thing might have been built by someone else, that's why Ken signed Komets are stupid expensive. It's like the difference between '65 and '66 Strats, over time the lines have become blurred. A $15k guitar is still an expensive guitar. There are certainly Trainwreck forgeries in circulation.
As far as I'm concerned a carefully researched replica built by Dave, Allyn or Paul is easily as good as the "real thing" from a practical standpoint. In fact it might be better than the "real thing" because you can use it in a real world situation, it's not like jewelery or some stupid priceless collectible. It begs the question, WHO is making the market for authentic collectible gear? I'm reasonably certain it isn't musicians, they can't afford it. I expect the market is driven by investor types, non-musicians who pull collectible gear out of circulation and hoard it because the return on investment exceeds anything else I can think of. Besides maybe loansharking or dealin' drugs...

Re: Thunderfunk=Trainwreck?
My understanding is that the amps still had the final tweeking, tube selection, and quality control done by Kenny.

Re: Thunderfunk=Trainwreck?
Yeah, and one of the forgers who contacted me said he was "building Trainwrecks and Komets for Ken". This was back when Ken was still alive. I couldn't find any contact information on Ken but Komet is easy enough to get hold of, they never heard of the "gentleman" in question. I'm reasonably certain that the "Ken signed Komet" the gentleman in question sold on eBay (for around $9.5k) is actually a forgery. It's common enough in the art world, you buy the original, copy it, keep the original, sell the copy. Leave the original to your kin in your will, when you drop dead it doesn't matter.Fischerman wrote:My understanding is that the amps still had the final tweeking, tube selection, and quality control done by Kenny.

Is there more then the Fender book he wrote? I like his writing, it's pretty straight forward with a little humor.
