check for me these trannies please...

Post by massygt6 »

Hi people!
I'm in the struggle between a 50W ODS and a 100w ODS...but my choice is towards
the big brother ;-)
In every amp I build I like to overdimensionate the Power Transformer, the benefits
in terms of dynamic, attack and endurance of the unit, are great in my opinion

Please check this specs for a 100W ODS:

Power TR:

360v-0-360v 500mA
3.15v-0-3.15v 8A (power tubes)
3.15v-0-3.15v 2A (preamp tubes)
12v-0 for relays
60v-0 for bias supply

OUTPUT TR:

AC core
RA-A: about 2k (better on the lower side or upper side???)
120w tolerance (core saturation is not my businness;-) )

sounds ok or there's something wrong?
thanks for your attention
Max

It sounds like it ought to work. Don't know who would carry it. On the plus side, you want high amperage capacity in these amps.

A lot of people would prefer a separate 12v trannie to isolate the switching from the main power supply. YMMV, Skip

That PT is monstrous! 500mA! :D

On the OT not sure, but on my D'Lite 44 I have one with 8K for 6V6 and 4.4K for the 6L6's.
Mind you that this is a two power tube amp (44 watts) so I'm not sure what the specs are for four power tubes (four power tubes).

You're right, its quite a beast, but I can assure you that the benefits are perceptible ;-)
For a 4x6L6/EL34 the Ra-a shoud be something around 2k, the fender twin replacemente is 2k, the plexy100 replacement is 1750k...
What about hammond transformers? they've made a "guitar series"...are they good?

I used their Twin replacement, the 290FX, in my last build. No complaints!
