[QUESTION] Tonestack Mid Pot

Post by Bombacaototal »

I have a bit of a knob question.

For a fender like tonestack with a .047 cap in the middle position, what is the difference between using a middle pot of 250ka vs a 100ka?

Now, here is a question that is perfectly answered by Duncan's Tone Stack calculator. You owe it to yourself to check it out.

Thanks for the reply. I had done it before but not really sure how to interpret. More gain overall and more mids!? Maybe I should buy both and try and listen..I guess that is the only way to "really" know the difference

The farther you "lift" the tone stack away from ground (the larger the value of the mid pot), the less attenuation you'll get from the stack (more gain).

ALSO IMPORTANT: The greater the mid pot value, the less the other controls affect the tone. You can clearly see this in Duncan's app. If you want your bass and treble controls to have a wide sweep, keep that mid pot value small.
