Anyone recognise this 12 inch alnico speaker. I would also like to get an estimation of power rating.
Has a smooth cone
Has NKS-5DG marked in red on the pole piece
Has a code "D7GP" on the basket
Any ideas??

Judging by that cone I would say that it's a Woffer and as such will sound dull.
I have no idea who made it , but looking at the size of that voice coil I would not pump more than 12 watts RMS into it!

Re: MYSTERY SPEAKER
Thanks Stevem,
It comes out of a President amp I acquired (also a mystery as far as info is concerned). I replaced this speaker briefly with Celestion Alnico Gold.. And although the gold is more efficient, I prefer the original!!! Same kind of top end response as the gold

A little more info about the amp might help (if the speaker is original). There was a President amp made in Canada. Any indication the amp might be Canadian?

Ok, I just took a guess, as most times cones with no ribs are thicker cones and more geared for low end.
The GP out of the D7GP stamping is reminding me of a Utah, or Oxford code and I will check that tonight for you.
In regards to power, then as in now many manufacturers used voice coils made by a outside source.
In regards to Jensen speakers they rated there one inch voice coil speakers at 14 watts, and there 1 1/2" voice coil speakers at 18 watts.
This is a EIA rating and as such falls inbetween RMS and peak wattage mostly!

I looked thru all of my catalogs , at Utah, Oxford, Quam, and Celtron and nothing comes close to looking like a match for any of those stamping numbers on that driver.
It seems that with most manufacturers the GP part of a stamping means general purpose.
If indeed it was made in Canada then it may use the same speaker supplyer as vintage Traynor amps used, the manufacturer who's name excapes me at the moment.
If you find any 60s or early 70s Traynor amps , even the solid state models with 10" drivers scoop them up as they sound killer!
