I tried some Mullard and TungSols as well but didn't like them as much. Did you use the LTPI from TUT5? The latest version uses a gain stage + Cathodyne PI - I used a 12AU7 w/ appropriate plate/cathode resistor changes. I used .022 coupling caps throughout. Since I didn't include the effects loop or reverb, I added attenuation between V2 and the GS/CathodynePI.
Maker - I look forward to hearing how the D-Pre turns out.
Just to clarify, my amp was quite a bit different than the Standard, although I used Kevin's 10-Watt transformer set.
I did use a LTPI, but I'd have to look at TUT5 to see if the values were similar.
Hi Ian,
The OT I'm going use has UL taps but doesn't have the cathode feedback windings. I will probably just wire it up for pentode mode though. I have switchable UL / pentode mode on my first one and find myself using pentode mostly. UL mode sounds good, very tight, but I prefer pentode.
The OT is a 50w, 4.2k primary toroid from KOC.
Steve,
My experience too with U/L output stages.
I like U/L mode but only when I also disconnect any global feedback.
Otherwise too tight for a git amp.
Cheers,
Ian
