+1 on 1W. I like bigger wattage for the plates to keep the noise down.

For anode loads, I like the IRC GS-3 series of metal film resistors. Still pretty small for 3W, and bulletproof.

I used about a dozen of them on this turret board. This shows their size (they're the black ones) compared to the KOA's and other assorted components:

I like both the IRC GS-3 resistors and the Kiwame (KOA Speer) 2W carbon films.
