Fender 135 PT and OT for D-style build?

Post by xtian »

I have a Fender 75/135 PT that I'm considering using in a 100w D-style build. The PT has 180-0-180 HT, 55-0 bias winding, and heater winding. Unloaded, I measure 377v AC. (Equivalent to Hammond 290YX.)

Please see the schematics for the 75 and the Bassman 135, which have identical HT circuits. I notice that the HT CT is not connected to ground--it's connected to the middle of the series reservoir caps. Is this how the B+ is boosted to 500v? [EDIT: ok, I get 360vAC x 1.4 (FWB with cap input) = 504v.]

I also have a Bassman 135 ultralinear OT (similar Hammond 1750WR), which seems well suited to a quad of 6L6.

Sound like the makings of a good D build?

In the fender schematic, the CT will present a DC voltage that is midway between B+ and GND. Used in this way, it provides an absolute center-point reference for the two series reservoir capacitors, ensuring each cap gets exactly half the B+ voltage. However, the CT will not act as a bleeder resistor because of the diode bridge, hence the two 100K, 1W bleeder resistors.

Maybe do a SSS style build
If you haven't done the big clean thing yet.
