Hey All,
The first commitment to my 5E4 preamp/5E3 power section build arrived today. I stole a Mojo narrow panel tweed cabinet, for a single 12" fully lacquered, etc, shipped for less than any other cab on their site. It was a special order that got cancelled and they made me an offer I couldn't refuse. The cool thing is that if I don't get around to the "Supluxe" for a while, the cab is a perfect size for any of my Marshall style builds in small box JCM800 chassis.
I'm all set for OT, but am searching for just that right PT to give me the 385-390VDC I want for the 6V6's and enough current for 3 12A?7's and at least 3A for the 5V. I also want it to properly fit a Tweed Super chassis at 3 1/2" x2 3/4" bolt mounting centers. Thinking this one may do OK:

but am certainly open to opinions.
Thanks All,
Gene

I think the HT and other secondaries from that will be way high, especially as your Supluxe will barely load it.
The Hammond Tweed Vibrolux PT has HT taps and may work better for this project http://www.hammondmfg.com/pdf/EDB290CAX.pdf

Thank you Sir,
While the HT current is OK for my use, the voltage is a bit lower than my preference, the 5V is only 2A and mounting would be a hassle and/or fugly.
This looks better to me, even though a little bit overkill on the HT and 6.3V current:

And this would be just about right on, except for the mounting:

Thanks Again,
Gene

I seem to remember seeing adaptor plates, to match smaller PTs with oversized chassis cut outs?

Re: And So The "Supluxe" Begins!
My neighbor/buddy has a "plasma-cam" and a "water jet" system at work and can cut anything I can draw. I guess that will be the best option once I get the amp proven. I've decided to limit my expenses on this as a "test" build by gutting the board from an existing build that needs some TLC any way.
Even though a little shy on HT current for constant, hard use, this PT (already in the chassis) at 630V should give me a good test:

With this OT20PP output transformer:

Re: And So The "Supluxe" Begins!
I happen to be using that PT next on a fixed bias 6V6 power section @ 400Vish plates. 100mA is fine. I recently used a 600VCT @ 120mA with a 5V4 rectifier and my plates were 403VDC. With a GZ34 they were 410. My wall voltage is 122VAC.
I imagine the 630V taps will get you almost the same w/ the 100mA PT, and a 5Y3 even lower. Those numbers on the CT sheets are at full load, and usually hogwash IME.

Re: And So The "Supluxe" Begins!
How many 12A?7 tubes are you running? I'll be having 3. I've been told to expect the iron to get pretty hot during hard use? It's odd that that particular transformer is listed for Princeton & Princeton Reverb which, at face value calculations should draw a bit more than 120ma! Many other transformers listed for that amp are rated at 140ma-150ma. Of course, we all know how that ClassicTone iron tensa to run at least the voltage well over spec!Smokebreak wrote:I happen to be using that PT next on a fixed bias 6V6 power section @ 400Vish plates. 100mA is fine. I'll run 3 ax7s. That's 900mA of ax7 fil current, and 2x6V6 is 900mA, so 6.3V @ 2A is fine. IIRC the princeton reverb(amongst others, I'll use that b/c it has the most "stuff") used the 125P1B PT , which was 650CT @ 70mA, 6.3V @ 2A , 5V @ 2A. They survived
