Captive/insert/press-in nuts

I use cage nuts too, and have a 3/8" square hole punch which works a treat

They are easy to replace if you ever have to and they can be gripped easily if the screw ever seized in it.

A pic of such an animal punch would be appreciated. I searched to the end of the internet and could not find a "Greenlee" type in that size. Maybe it's some other sort of punching device?

I agree that using cage nuts is a superior solution!

I've used rivnuts but I'd prefer to use cage nuts too.
Weldnuts are the worst, I've had to use them on CE chassis for Dumbles, and stripped the nut off too, they can't tolerate any misalignment.

Ive hammerd in the ones I got from tubedepot. It was tricky getting the hammer in there. It worked but was harder than I though

"Well there ya go!" Certainly a somewhat acceptable solution! I'm a bit anally retentive, but could likely deal with that after a couple of toddies! But my amps will generally sound better than Mike's! Of course, that's probably due to my playin'! I'm a horrible guitarist, but a master of tones! I call my playing style "Screechin' & Squakin'" & DAMN PROUD OF IT!

Haha, yes, I use these as well and I was suprised to see them in production amps. They do work very well and the spring action works to provide pressure and keep them from loosening. You can usually find the 1/4" size at the hardware store, but sometimes only the inferior (speed nuts) with the single thread.

Yeah,
I play with Hot Rods/Classic Cars, so have fairly good sources, but sometimes not exactly what I'd like. It is, however, an acceptable alternative. It certainly does leave a little bit of "wiggle" room!

Cage nuts "DO" look a little more professional, but hopefully I built the amp bullet proof enough that nobody will be opening it up anytime soon! I like happy customers and am proud of my work! I'll drop my drawers for anyone, anytime!
