Need advice on a TC Electronic 1210.

Post by 67Mopar »

I have a TC 1210 that blew a mains fuse today. I ordered some T160 fuses, and will check it again... Weak fuse maybe? If it's a failed transformer, does anyone know where I could get one? I emailed TC, but I haven't heard from them yet.

It's set to 110/120 volts, and the original fuse was/is a T160/250 volt as required... I just hope it's nothing serious. :(

Sometimes fuses fail from "old age." One too many bursts of current on startup, and that's it. Let's hope that's what happened to yours.

The 2290 has lotsa tantalum power supply bypass caps sprinkled all over the boards. I had one go bad on me a number of years ago. It might not hurt to do a quick visual inspection of all the board-mounted components. In my case, the culprit was easy to spot as it was charred.

Good luck with it.

I took a look at the surface area, but there are two inverted boards that are suspended above the main board. From what I could see, nothing looked out of the ordinary. I tested the D1-D4 diodes, two of which test good. The other two read a small amount of resistance, but that could be back circuitry causing the resistance. I'll keep looking for someone who works on these, but I'm beginning to think this is going to be a RFR item. :(

This is for anyone experiencing the same fuse popping issue in their TC1210 chorus:

There is a capacitor in the effects board that fails, which is what causes the fuse to blow. Replacing this capacitor will fix the problem. I sent mine to T&R Electronics for the repair, as Brian is a former head of TC Electronic repairs (Denmark).
