I have several sets I scored, and I really like them.
I use them in my HRM ODS, and also in my 6G6b clone.
They rock.

They are just Sovtec tubes and as such still sound brittle when you push them hard enough, nothing to write home about so to speak !

When you bias them warm and crank 'em up, the old original Tung-Sol 5881/6L6WGBs sound really good, don't sound brittle and can live at voltages that even most 6L6GC are not comfortable with. And they're cheaper than NOS RCA blackplates too.

Anyone want to chime in with some suggestions for some decent glass for my boogie, bearing in mind its fixed bias, being in the UK we don't have a great selection of production stuff at reasonable costs

You really need to convert that bias circuit to be adjustable if you want to get the most out of whatever tube you have in there no less pin down where it is that you like your Amps output stage to start clipping hard!

jestaudio, I ran into a 50W Boogie several years ago that ran its two 6L6GCs at 520V plate and pretty high dissipation. They were Mesa 375-STR by Sylvania. It was an odd one with a weird highly distortable PI. Son of Boogie maybe?

My point being check your plate & screen voltages before you buy any current production 6L6 as I doubt there are any that will handle 500V for long, especially not the screens, at any normal dissipation level.

FWIW I have been hearing good things about the TAD long glass 6L6.
