Fender HRD volume pot

Post by M Fowler »

The Fender HRD clean channel volume pot on this 1st series amp is a 250kA but owner said the volume comes on way too fast so I ordered a replacement 1MA fender pot and soldered that in.

Owner was happy with the results he only uses the clean channel. The master volume pot in this amp is 100kL I'm wondering if a 1MA pot would be better in that MV spot as well?

Stop screwing with the pots and install a 12AY7 in the V1 hole and he will kiss your feet while smiling ear to ear!

I'm not sure what all these young players are hearing because for my taste they fiddle way too much with the tone stack and have the knobs turned way up to be an effective tone stack anymore damn near bypassed.

Yeah the 12AY7 is a good tube choice or 5751 I will suggest that, thanks Stevem.

A real good 5751 is too close to the mu of the ax7 if you where to ask me, I would go right to the ay7!

I have found that placing an 82K resistor directly across the volume pot brings the clean channel back to a usable sweep. Does not affect the reverb drive of the drive to the overdrive valve.
No gain...no pain!

I've done much the same with values of 56K to 100K. Gets my vote for a good solution.

Hmm I'll have to try the 12AY7/5751 option sometime.
