And I thought my Vibroverb was difficult! WOW!
Experience is nothing more than a collection of screw ups.

Why'd you build a Ceriatone, instead of buying it pre-assembled? All the photos I've seen of Ceriatones show great build quality, and they charge almost nothing for it. (of course, those photos are mostly on Nik's site)
More to the point - how'd you convince a client to pay for American labor?

It was the client's idea
I offered that suggestion, but he said he'd rather have me build it. Which is cool. I also did a complete QA rundown over the amp and set him up with tubes. It sounds really nice just in the limited time I played it.

you are a lucky man Dart!
I lost money on every amp i sold...

Re: Anyone care to see the DC30 I built for a client?
Believe me when I say I give away a lot of my time. I spent over an hour rubbing all the burnt on laser cutting goo from the chassis alone. I also have spent a lot of time tweaking amps that I have already delivered for nothing. Other things I do is upgrade certain things like wire, shielded in particular, and other components where needed. I also spend a lot of time finding the "right" set of tubes for what the client is looking for tonewise. So, I am still making peanuts / hour
Oh well. I take more delight in the responses from my clients about how much they're digging the amp.

Acetone is great for that. Wet the chassis and let it soften for a short while, and then use an acetone-soaked cloth to rub the goop off.dartanion wrote:I spent over an hour rubbing all the burnt on laser cutting goo from the chassis alone.
Still a PITA though!

I'd be interested on how to create a faceplate like that.

It's silkscreen on back of plexiglass. Very nice looking indeed.mooreamps wrote:I'd be interested on how to create a faceplate like that.

Well, to my eyes, it looks just as comparitable as some of the other high-end builders work. I'm sure the tone would be as high end as well.

Thanks Gary! I really appreciate the kind words.
I just got an email from my client and he is digging it a lot so far. I just arrived today so he's totally jazzed about it.

if you don't mind me asking...
i plan to build a Liverpool from Ceriatone's layout...
What are the possible problem caper?
Thanks

Re: Anyone care to see the DC30 I built for a client?
I would change a few things, but is more so in the chassis than the boards. The NFB wire from the board to the impedance switch is not the greatest for routing. It's a very long run and seems to get cranky when you get too close to the power tube grid leads. Thus, I would move the impedance switch so that you have the shortest run possible from the board, thus directly inline with the turret where the NFB resistor comes off the board.
I might also suggest moving the speaker jacks over a ways away from the power tube sockets. If you need to tweak or resolder anything on the sockets, they'll be in the way.
