18watt server

Post by billv »

All,

Just a quick note that the 18watt site is confirmed down, while it undergoes a server move. I'm completely in the dark on any of the details ATM.

Best regards,
Bill

I was hoping it was something like that and not that it was shut down again.
Experience is nothing more than a collection of screw ups.

Yes, still down at the moment (2pm EST). This is happening due to a larger upstream hosting firm buying out the smaller upstream hosting firm, the new upstream company is screwing up the server/DNS transfer royally. mhuss.com and some other domains I manage have also been offline this whole time.

Mark,

Just fyi

The listed name servers for 18watt were both involved in the migration, meaning they were/are both inside the data center, and there was no provision made for alternate/offsite/backup dns at all... ? DNS info for my servers remained while 18watt went MIA on Sat. 18watt name servers are back online at this time, the web server is not.

I understand that the new data center (Navisite) has been dealing with a network DDOS attack and that sometime on Sat, rsync failed requiring servers to be picked up and carted over to the new facility.
Not what they had planned for at all.

The guys I deal with are great, and always take care of business.
My servers were affected but came back up overnight.

If this doesn't get sorted out soon, write me privately and I'll do whatever I can for you.

Thank you RML, that's what I wanted to confirm. Here's an article:

At present, the 18watt site is back online, with some technical issues pertaining to uploads and ssh access. Updates will continue over there, and thanks for your time.
