Your post doesn't make much sense to me. You want an 8 ohm tap, but you don't want to test it and find out it's 4 ohms and 2.8 ohms-ish? You lost me there.

Here are the facts: Mojo sells a 1484 OT copy that has a secondary that consists of 4 and 8 ohm taps. I'd trust them on that. Heyboer makes a good deal (If not all) of their trannies and they are a great company to deal with. If you can't deal with Mojo for whatever reason, call Heyboer, spend the extra $$ and spec it the way you feel it should be correctly built. You can simply give them Mojo's part # (If they did indeed build it) and have them add the 2.8 ohm tap. Simple.

In my 1484 I installed the Mojotone OT that they sell for the tweed twin low power amp, this OT is interleaved and blows there 1484 replacement away in terms of tone, no less power!

The amp now outputs 30 watts of clean power unlike the stock rating of 25, and the bottom end is tight!
The OT is quite a lot bigger than the factory one and you will have to leave out the rear chassis mounting bolt to get it on the chassis, you will also have to silicone glue down the inner bolt strap since you will not have access to it with the big OT in place.
It does cost a bunch more than the OT made for the amp, but your after max tone right?
I also use it on the 16 ohm tap with the speakers wired in series, as this helps out also since you are using the full secondary winding!

Also if you have the 1484 speaker cabinet there 1/4 Masonite baffle board sucks, not to mention that the cut outs for the speakers are far smaller than needed!
I made a new baffle board and made new wood amp stops so the head still stores right in the cabinet.
In the least you should make wood reinforcement braces and glue them to the baffle in a fan type pattern to stiffen it up.

I would personally think twice about 'beefing up' one of these amps, the whole allure of them personally is that they fall apart and sound like shit. If I want an amp too sound really good (in a more hifi sense), I don't think or trying to polish the proverbial turd that is the 1484. I would go for a copy of the original with the taps you need. So if I read you right you like them when you have a need to play thru a amp that sounds like shit, is that what I should walk away with?

I had an all orig 2x12 and it sounded glorious, USA tubes, crappy tranny, Masonite baffle and crappy budget Jensens. Better than a Fender or Marshall? No, but glorious in it's own right. That shit baffle allowed the dinky Jensens to swell up like a tidal wave. To each his own.

Well, I was exaggerating a bit for effect, or course. I personally think the charm of these amps IS their looseness, and ability to fall apart at the seams in a musical way when pushed to the limit. rp seemed to be saying the same thing. So, yeah just noting to the OP that if you 'roid out the 1484 it may start sounding more like a 2015 ;)

I don't have a 1484 anymore but the one I had was well taken care of by an old friend I bought it from and it sounded very good.

Good luck with the project.

The reverb on the Sivertones that had it was a budget too far, but what can you do, they were amateur gear sold at Sears. I think the thin baffle may have been an active choice, cheap way to get a bigger sound and other than the 'verb, those amps delivered a lot. I think some work went into that, appears to be a constant through the Danelectro & Silvertone amps, basses guitars. Cheap where it didn't matter but the playability and tone was excellent - the opposite of today's bs world, extra expensive were it isn't justified and mediocre performance. If I could go back to 1963 I wouldn't even pack a bag.
