Isn't that the truth! I am so grateful for ALL of the info that Gill (And your generous friend Bill),Brandon, BobW,Scott,heisthl..And in no way is that the list in how they contibute. I could not,nor would I need any more info than what they have give to build a fantastic amp. I have always thought that Barry(Bnitt) has given me much info here and from the Hoffman forum but I am a little sad that he would put down Brandon and others?? here on this forum because he didn't get more help from Brandon. Funk has given me MUCH info that out of respect I would not give out to no one (Although much has been put out here anyway). I myself has benefited from all these generous folks here and will always be thankful for all I can and will learn from them. I do thank all of you because I have learned so much in the last three to four years of my amp building life! Thank you all again, ChadBobW wrote:Well I'll admit, I haven't posted a schematic or layout in quite a while but I do have this to say:
This is for the 99.05% of the forum that loves to build and experiment.
1. We know these amps are not a build to print, and plug and play.
2. We are are a lot of generous/helfpul friends on this forum.
3. We don't expect or demand to be handed the schematic, layout, parts list, and build instructions, but our hats are off to you for doing so.
4. We like to help each other out.
The fun is in building, tweaking, and learning about these wonderful amps.
This is for the 0.05% of the forum:
1. Don't expect to join the forum, download the schematics, layouts, and parts lists, then complain that info was wrong.
2. It's not a plug and play design. Each amp has got to be tweaked for your own personal sound. That's how HAD completed his amps, and that's how you'll have to complete yours too.
3. So if that's not your cup of tea, then go buy an amp.
4. You'll probably still be dissapointed anyway.

Re: No Dumble BWitt layout on the way.
Is the HRM goop the same as the preamp goop? It seems that the few pics I've seen with HRM have a darker blue goop under the HRM but the light blue stuff on the preamp. In any case, I have here with me @ work a tube of Pro Seal Blue RTV Silicone Instant Gasket. It also says High Temerature/Pressure Resistant and Low Volatile Formula. I just put a bead on the back of a business card and it looks very similar to the HRM goop. If you want I could take picture later and post it.Does any one actually know what the Goop is? It's translucent so I don't think it's auto gasket sealant, someone actually suggested "Marine Jelly" any thoughts?
Re: No Dumble BWitt layout on the way.
What kind of goop? Have we really stooped to this level of cloning?
Have we really stooped to this level of cloning? What's next, Formica boards? Oops, sorry Gary.

BTW, my guess would be that it's just generic automotive RTV. The cloudy looking original stuff is probably high temp. Sorry, I used to be a mechanic but haven't touched a car in 15 years.

Haha, well I don't clone so...no. I always assumed the two different color goops were a clue to amp's history. But Brandon asked and I knew I had a tube of blue RTV so...there ya go.

It's not Car RTV, I bought all flavors the NAPA had last night and none of them match.

This stuff is so funny....
So if I wanted to clone one of the amps with the silver grey translucent goop, what should I use there? And the brown stuff???
Maybe the big guy willl post what he used!

Try the clear with a little blue food coloring.
You just have to get the color right to get the full mojo effect.

I got some blue stuff that looks like the carlton amp, opaque and sparkly, but none that are this deep translucent blue.

This stuff I have is shiny and mostly opaque and the blue seems to match the 'HRM' goop...just based on pics.

Be careful, some RTVs out gas caustic vapors. I once sealed an outdoor keypad at my home with RTV, and within a few days, I opened the sealed box to see why the keypad stopped working. The fumes had attacked the keypad copper traces and turned them into rust.
It may not be as critical in our application, but test the RTV on a loose component before coating your boards. hth

Re: No Dumble BWitt layout on the way.
True, beware of the acetic acid that is released when the silicon is hardening....some newer styles of silicon have way less amounts of this acetic acid.
I have used this newer stuff before on amps and it works great for years.
Hope this helps.

Some tech background....

http://www.davidson.com.au/products/str ... /rtvsr.pdf
You want the stuff that produces methanol instead of acetic acid as a byproduct....so instead of having your copper corroded you'll turn blind instead! Maybe it is best to let this stuff vulcanize in a well ventilated room...
Have fun and please keep us updated!
