A Smaller One...

The young brother of the Paul GUILHEM Deluxe : The Paul GUILHEM Junior.

Originally finished in September 1997 as a 8" version combo, I rebuilt it in a 10" version, plus improved circuit :

Power tubes are installed on a suspended plate, along with a "damping wall" to isolate them from direct acoustic emission of the speaker :

Size comparison with a Fender Pro-Junior and Princeton-Reverb :

Here played by a pro guitarist friend in a local music shop. The amp is put at the back on a Fender Deluxe-Reverb RI (too bad that I hadn't my recorder with me then :( ) :

You are setting a standard here that not all of us can live up to. I've been watching. Your attention to the construction details inside and outside are as good as it gets. What kills me is the tone from your amps. None of that fizzy stuff you hear on some amps.

Very well done!

Thanks dorrisant and Phil_S,
You are setting a standard here that not all of us can live up to.
I am very honored by your statement, but it seems still very ambitious IMHO ...

Here are below links to some samples of The Paul GUILHEM Junior.

Green Onions style, with my Squier Std Stratocaster :

Blues style, with my Gibson ES335-TD :

You can hear the difference on the choruses when I activate the booster.

Two other ones, played by Juju, a pro guitarist, in impro-test at the local music shop (this time, I had my digital recorder  ) :

I let Juju modify the settings all along, switching on and off the booster, so he could go from Jazz to Rock...

Remember that the amp has the size of a Fender Pro-Junior and a 10"speaker...

All the recordings were made with my Roland R-05, in stereo, at a distance of circa 1.5 to 2m, circa 30° off-axis. There is no additional effect, the amp is standalone.

Enjoy !

It loops beautiful, and the gut shot just made my jaw drop.
Is the dampener something you just came up with or is that a legitimate product sold somewhere? Looks like aluminum, adhesive, and a good sponge.

Thank you, guys !

It is made from scratch also.

- The power tubes plate is supsended with 4 reverb tank grommets, not tightened so left a bit loose to avoid vibrations transmission.

- the dampener screen is made from 1.5mm aluminium sheet cut and bent to size. It is covered on the speaker side with a 7mm dampening soft/heavy material glued on it, similar to what is used in automotive and industrial applications. The whole is screwed firmly on the chassis.

Even fully cranked, the amp doesn't produce adverse vibrations. I pay much attention in design and construction to avoid that problem that I really can't stand, along with hum and hiss :x ...

Here are some additional pictures showing the system :
