Another man done gone......
Live at the Regal was the first album I heard of his. That one has to be listened to end-to-end. Not only was he a great guitarist and great vocalist, he was a great showman. He really knew how to work a crowd.

I suppose he was also quite the ladies man; 15 kids with 15 different women. That's going to be an interesting estate to settle.

Live at Cook County Jail is a great show, and has the definitive "Thrill is Gone."

Yup, Regal and Cook County are it for me.

Yeah...he'll be missed. An icon. He lived a long life. We should all get such a full measure.

Yeah, both of those are fantastic performances. I've been listening to both all day.

To me, one thing that sets him apart from some of the later day guitarists influenced by him is his dynamics. He could vary his dynamics to add even more feeling to his guitar work. He knew when to play softly.

Or maybe I'm not describing it right. Seems a lot of young blues guys are constantly pushing things. When BB decided to play softly, it was like, this part is just for me. It wasn't to impress anyone.

Words. Writing about music is like dancing about architecture. Just seems him and Albert knew as much about when not to play as what to play.

But I have to agree with a very insightful individual I know who said something along the lines "He lived a full life. I'm not saddened by his passing, but by the passing of time."

And when to play slowly. Then, when he goes skipping through one of his signature runs it's another kind of dynamics: Anticipation, tension, and release- like a roller coaster.

Indeed, and as it's been said, it's as much about the notes you don't play as the ones you do. Non-stop speed is immediately fatiguing and boring.

His command of the guitar was so great that it overshadowed his singing. He would have been a great blues singer even if he never played a note.
