I have a '67 super with four CTS speakers. I started playing with speakers and found a few things.

60'S CTS-not bad but a little light on the top and bottom. I felt I could do better.

Kendrick 10's-Cool if you only like chimey cleans, they get a little harsh when you turn the amp up.

evm-10ms-These are a huge pain, They're heavy and loud and if you really want 4 you are going to have to mod your amp as they hit the opt...but WOW! The dynamics are amazing and the clean tone is superb.
Your amp will weigh close to 100lbs but there is nothing quite like it.

Original Mojotone 10"s-I've heard these in supers and they sound really good-ceramic

Electro Harmonix-10"-This is a really inexpensive speaker but I've heard great things about it in a super.

I hope that helps

Maybe I just don't get it but I just don't get neos. Most of them are way down on efficiency compared to either alnico or ceramic, frequently 95db for a neo and 100 db for an alinco from the same manufacturer.

Most of my customers are getting older, whether they're able or not most of them have paid their dues lugging heavy gear so light weight is near the top of their list in priorities. I'll say this: If you use neos for light weight and mount them in a birch ply cabinet with a 3/4" thick baffle you may want to try something else.

Alnicos (besides D120Fs!) are lighter than ceramics so they're a good compromise if weight is an issue.

The Oxford 10L6
The Jensen C10R
The CTS 10"

Thanks all.
I have bought, played and sold many bf Super Reverbs over the past 25 years. My favourite Speakers in them are the CTS ceramics (NOT the alnicos!) and I prefer the version I found in '66 amps with slightly bigger magnets than those found in '65s.

To my ears they offer a very open, transparent sound without the piercing highs of the pre-CBS amps C10Qs (Rs and they do sound weaker than a Q anyway), but with a much better definition than the muddy, mid-rangey CTS alnicos and also as the ceramic Oxfords. They also have a much better defined bass response, which is quite important if you play loud (above 4).

I have to admit, thoiugh, that I know a number of players who really like the CTS alnicos much, but those guys tend to favour soft, midrangey tones and do not mind a fluffy bass response ;-).
