Bob, I had a sleepless night and saw what Mark wrote, it was nothing pertaining to jelle's thread. That's it.

And if you think about it why should it be Nik's new amp of the month.
I almost always find your comments offensive. You would not have built your Tweedle Dee if it weren't for Charlie. No one would have. You take as much as Nik or anyone else for that matter, but somehow what Nik does with the information is worse than what you do with it?

Real information has been unselfishly shared and the world did not come to an end. From my point of view, Gil has been a main contributor of real Dumble info. There have been others. I would like to take a moment to thank everyone that has unselfishly shared Dumble information. The point is, share and feel good about yourself instead of being a petty hoarder of information...or don't.

It is a 62 brown Deluxe. It has been retolexed and whoever did it sure did a nice job on it. I do not want to post gut shots but in the spirit of the forum I will say that inside is pretty much stock and some caps are changed for orange drops. Speaker is an Oxford Alnico.

Sure, I really thought I was clear enough in my initial post on it, but here is the schematic of the amp. Please compare that to my posts in this thread and let us know! :D

It is a fun amp, building it is quite simple.

Glad you got an amp that may have been modded by HAD. That's nice to know. I completely agree with Gil.

I agree with Gil too, which is exactly why I am sharing.

And if people want to know more, email or call me and I will try to help.

David Lindley concerning this topic:

As Lindley told Guitar Player in a July '77 interview, … "We went about getting the sound in those amps by taking an old Fender Deluxe to Howard Dumble and saying, 'We want this, but bigger and louder.' And Howard got the closest of anybody I've heard."

Alexander Dumble concerning this topic:

"Some players describe Dumbles as different, more powerful, more durable more efficient versions of a Fender Deluxe

That's a good way to describe it--in a limited fashion. There are some great qualities to a small Deluxe. You get a great harmonic structure at a small acoustic volume. It's real pleasing, especially when you're playing by yourself. But that sound is not convertible into a group ambience--it's gone. So, in the respect that I try to get something comfortable and very musical, only in a bigger fashion, that's a good analogy. But the circuitry is not even close. I use vacuum tubes, and transformers and knobs, but the similarity stops there. To get the result I want, I have to use unique circuitry. It's my tone circuits and coupling circuits and the way I process phase-inversion.

Can you "Dumble-ize" a Fender amp to the point that it shares the Dumble philosophy and sound, or would it be a compromise?

It's a compromise. The actual physical construction of the Fender limits what can be done. In fact, after the last Steel-String Singer mod I did to David Lindley's amps, he no longer uses the Fender Bassman I Dumbleized for him. He wanted this luscious transparency and response--like floating in white clouds--and I came up with special circuitry. I can use a Fender chassis, but you have to rip everything off of it, fill in all the holes, and re-drill it. They're just a little bit too squashed. A distance of half a centimeter makes a big difference in the way something sounds. It's a science involved with what's called circuit constants."

So trying to understand what this is all about,

This Deluxe has had a few components replaced with the same values ?

or

has had components replaced with different values ?

I can only assume that these replacements / position have a great impact on the overall tone as to be more significant than the information CW has shared, hence all the cloak and dagger stuff.

Huh? This is not the same amp circuit as CW's posting, which was based off a tweed 5C3. This is a 6G3, totally different circuit topology.
