I think I bought a Dumble....

Post by jelle »

Yeah, I really think I did. :D

It is a 62 brown Deluxe. It has been retolexed and whoever did it sure did a nice job on it. I do not want to post gut shots but in the spirit of the forum I will say that inside is pretty much stock and some caps are changed for orange drops. Speaker is an Oxford Alnico.

It sounds really really great. Throaty and big, very dramatic and it feels great to boot.

Maybe it's a HAD serviced amp and not a HAD modified amp?

If nothing substantial has been done.......

Good to know though.

Some caps were replaced with orange drops.

I found it on ebay, suspected it had been Dumble modded and took the gamble. When I got it, I noticed the timbre was correct for a 70s Dumble. I took it over to a buddy who owns several Dumble amps -including a 70s one- and he confirmed what I heard.

It is LOUD and happy sounding.

So, the only mods are a few caps replaced with ODs and it sounds like a Dumble? Which caps were replaced? Was the tonestack changed? Fill us in. :P

All I have to go by is the letter from HAD all those years ago. His handwriting is not like what we see on your amp's sticker.

Cheers,

Gil

Out of pure curiosity, and again, I'm not being smarmy..why can't you post gut shots?

The amp will be used for a product line in the future.

So I am walking a thin line here. I am aware of that. In the spirit of the forum, as I have many friends here that I learned from and wanted to return the favor to, I thought it was nice to share some information on this amp so that the collective knows it exists, and get some idea of what it is without having to show the guts.

I hope I did the right thing. If this turns out to be a stupid move from my end because people chose do not respect the boundaries that I defined, I will remove the post. I hope I do not have to, I like to share here.

I see. We'll I'd still like to see some shots, or some sort of description of the circuit. Otherwise, we have a wonderfully drifted brown deluxe! This isn't some sort of OD Deluxe, is it?
