'Dumblize' a Fender HRD - Modify or Gut and Rebuild?

Much has been learned through the tremendous help of this forum and I am asking for specific help here.

I've got a Fender HRD, circa 1997, and would like to make it a better amp (the woes associated with this amp are pretty well known - master volume wrong taper, too much reverb, bad OD sound, etc). The PCB shows overheating of the power resistors in the +/-16V supply.

Would appreciate any suggestions.

Glad you've found a remedy for improving a seemingly defective amp.

Have already built a d-clone and the intent is to do the work myself.

Agreed. Also, being "old school" (actually had courses in vacuum tube theory in school), I'm partial to P2P wiring and eyelet or turret boards in a tube amp.

I gladly pitch his HRD mod whenever I can. I had Jim do one for me 10 years ago or so. It got me hooked on playing guitar again - then building amps. I really should have kept it but that cab is too damned heavy....... Good guy & great sounding mod. Good luck with your project. Gut that bitch.....

Thanks for the amp love! I consider him a close friend, and really appreciate him, and all who have helped me in my quest. It`s never been an easy road, and many have looked down upon me, but at the end of the day, all a man has is his true friends , faith and integrity, i`d like ta keep all! lol!

sure i`d gut it too, esp w/all info here, AN overdrive special...IS special, we all need to thank god Almighty for putting Alexander on the planet, and showing us all a better way to get the passion of our spirits out of a stringed instrument very LOUDLY or NOT! lol! But that said.....i`ve figured it all out w/o de-gooping a $50,000 amp, just took me a bit more time than most..but i`m fine with that.. I believed it, n the good lord took me up on it!
