I did a huge mistake, now I need help!!!
I'll make it clear right away: I did too many things at the same time and I did a dumb ass move.
After doing few mods in my amp, I turned the switch on with no tubes and no speakers....
The light was on for 1-2 seconds and then the fuse blew.
Now, with everything connected, the fuse keep blowing.
It a single ended amp. I read 258ohm on the primary of the OT with my meter and 0.5ohm on secondary.
My guess is that I blew the OT, but I need a confirmation.
Thanks

Picture. Big, clear pictures are needed.

With no power tubes in, you should't be blowing a OT. You might check your mods for shorts etc.
Re: I did a huge mistake, now I need help!!!
So no tubes and no speaker shouldn't do any harm?
So I'll check my mods
So I'll check my mods

Check your modding to ensure that you haven't inadvertently shorted anywhere on the B+ rail to any part of the ground return side of the circuit.
He who dies with the most tubes... wins
Re: I did a huge mistake, now I need help!!!
Is an electrolytic filtering cap plugged wrong way could be cause that problem?
Re: I did a huge mistake, now I need help!!!
It would help to know what the mods were.
Re: I did a huge mistake, now I need help!!!
I added a filtering stage before the OT.
47uF + choke.
I just say few seconds ago that I installed the cap backwards...
In theses situations, I tell myself that those who do nothing do not make mistakes, and that experience is the sum of our errors...

I've done that.martin manning wrote:That'd do it.GERPUD wrote:Is an electrolytic filtering cap plugged wrong way could be cause that problem?
I would like to say everyone here has done that too, but it probably isn't true.
Re: I did a huge mistake, now I need help!!!
I would never do anything like that! If I had done something like that, I would have a story to tell about how the end of the cap popped out and scared me so much that I jumped and made contact with the B+ rail and got the jolt of my life and then the amp fell off the cradle and broke a tube which was a very spectacular light show with the sparks and I remember seeing all this as I was falling off the stool I was sitting on. You can always tell when that happens to someone--they write run-on sentences. But I would never do that.
What?

Sign me up, in a moment of distraction I've done that. Also had caps that were mismarked as to which end's whichlord preset wrote: I would like to say everyone here has done that too, but it probably isn't true.

Well, no one I know certainly maybe did not get a high voltage burn today from the fluorescent fixture he may or may not have been replacing the ballast in...

Its amazing how stinky letting the smoke out of a PT would be. But I dont know anyone who would do that.
