sunn coliseum pa; what value is this restistor?

Post by ampfab »

what value is the resistor on the cathode of the triode before the tone stack?
is it 4.7k or 47k. i can't find a totally clear schematic.
A friend of mine says that it has to be a 47k, kinda looks like the schematic says 4.7k.
what do you guys think?

The schematic does call it a 4.7K. And the voltage on the cathode is consistent with a 4.7K. If that resistor were 47K there would be about 60V on the cathode.

Ahh.. Good point about the cathode voltage.

sluckey is right, voltage confirms the educated guess.

Now you understand why Europeans use the "letter" as decimal point.

You can easily lose a tiny dot (or worse, gain one) when scanning, photocopying, etc. but it's harder to miss values written as:

4k7 (4.7k)

22n (0.022uF)

2n2 (0.0022uF or 2200pF)

and so on.

Thanks for everyone's help. I just finished putting together an amp based on the sunn coliseum pa using a fender type power amp using 6l6 tubes. Sounds very cool! :)
