Re: A Les Paul rebuild
Bit of a update , plenty of horror for those that hate red lol however its not bad in my humble opinion, few bits to sort out like a new nut, new saddles etc, i'll play it in this weekend with a rough setup and see where I am with it.
The finish is spirit dyed with 2 clear coats of nitro and some careful distressing
New aged decal applied and clear coated

What's not to like in a red guitar?
Re: A Les Paul rebuild
Nice red, looks great. You did a good deed, gave a forlorn guitar it's dignity back.

Good job!

Cheers folks, I,m getting quite attached to this one , fortunately it needs playing in and setting up so the new owner gets to wait for a few gigs lol

Perfect! Great job. The color is the right one too.
Signatures have a 255 character limit that I could abuse, but I am not Cecil B. DeMille.

You never know the customer might hate the colour( doubt it very much) and I get to keep it,Reeltarded wrote:Perfect! Great job. The color is the right one too.
Just fitted a Graphtec nut and got the last bits of hardware on ready to play in tonight

A spirit based dye, effectively you dissolve the dye in Methylated spirits, wipe on and wait for it to dry then build up the coats to get the desired shade, I found I needed around 20 coats on the top to 5 coats on the main body, leave to dry for 24 hours then shoot the clear, I had a advantage I have access to a heated booth to aid drying outStructo wrote:What did you use for the red?

Looks nice, I'm glad you didn't go with a gold-top. Dare to be different!!! Besides, both of my main guitars are red.
