Re: RCH us made tubes?
The first group is buying tube amps though right? Probably because they want tube sound, whether they understand where it comes from of not. The nuances that the tweakers are after are probably lost on them, and those guys that want reliability and low cost have made a practical choice. NOS tubes are not worth the expense and risk to me either.
This new venture choosing a 6L6 as their first product and introducing it at Hi-Fi shows is odd as Steve pointed out. A really good repro might be a good seller for guitar amps, but not at that price.

That's pretty much the way I see it as well..Everyone seems to agree that they prefer the sound of a tube amp over SS (although we took in mostly tube amps).. IMO the amount of guitar players that use these more expensive USA like what RCH is attempting is really going to be determined by there price point and how much hype they generate..If they come in at double or more on the price of there tubes compaired to the Ruskies and China stuff, it will be a hard sell to the general public and only the older generation that has the 3K PRS and Boutique amp will be buying them, and that is a rather small (and shrinking) demographic..
As a side note.. I don't think tube amps will go away anytime soon however it will be interesting to see where the market goes in the next 10 or so years as today's pop music really doesn't have much guitar and it's been increasingly harder for a guitar player to make a living doing it.. We'll see

Most pop these days sounds to my ear like the guitars were direct injected via a DigiDesign Eleven Tonal Castration device. Which is why I never listen to music on the radio anymore.
Re: RCH us made tubes?
Country music is really IMO the only saving grace..(As far as Guitar on radio)Still it doesn't seem like as much guitar driven popular music since the 70's 80's and 90's when Blues and more Hair/grunge bands were more popular..At least where I live..I hear the Allman Bros are breaking up another great guitar band leaves the scene..There are still quite a few bands that are guitar driven..Perhaps Joe B and Derek Trucks, Warren and a few others can get things going again..John Mayer and Brad Paisley have done pretty well keeping guitar out there in radio land....It seems like now it's all about the vocals thanks to the Voice and American Idol,X Factor etc..Milkmansound wrote:thats just not true, thank the lord! literally...talbany wrote:today's pop music really doesn't have much guitar and it's been increasingly harder for a guitar player to make a living doing it.. RE Allman Bros Band... at least Warren and Derek are successful in their own rights, so the guitar should continue there.talbany wrote:Country music is really IMO the only saving grace..(As far as Guitar on radio)Still it doesn't seem like as much guitar driven popular music since the 70's 80's and 90's when Blues and more Hair/grunge bands were more popular..At least where I live..I hear the Allman Bros are breaking up another great guitar band leaves the scene..There are still quite a few bands that are guitar driven..Perhaps Joe B and Derek Trucks, Warren and a few others can get things going again..John Mayer and Brad Paisley have done pretty well keeping guitar out there in radio land....It seems like now it's all about the vocals thanks to the Voice and American Idol,X Factor etc..Milkmansound wrote:thats just not true, thank the lord! literally...talbany wrote:today's pop music really doesn't have much guitar and it's been increasingly harder for a guitar player to make a living doing it.. We just need more drunk music festivals in the US where ZZ TOP, blues, etc are the norm to keep the guitar slingers alive and well.

Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Festival is still going strong, AFAIK.

Last I checked, metal and all it's associated subgenres and the guitar work they involve are still going strong, and guitar players are still a dime-a-dozen. Good guitarists who possess both technical aptitude and the ability to channel raw emotion while being able to work well with other musicians are as rare as ever, however. And unfortunately the vast majority of us are young and broke lol.

It's never too late to have a happy childhood.
I don't think that you will see any WECo tubes from RCH
RCH is working in a former RCA factory and have bought RCA designs; I doubt that you will see any 300B tubes, at least not any time soon.
There was/is a company that bought the WECo tooling, I think that they used the Westrex brand, and supposedly built some new production 300B tubes. I can't figure out the fact, fiction, wishful thinking regarding the new production Westrex 300B tubes.

Re: RCH us made tubes?
I don't really think that what's going on in terrible pop music on the radio land is going to have any major effect on the manufacturing of tube amplifiers and their components.
I hope not.
And although the Black Keys seem to have turned in that direction production wise, I'm sure Dan would still want to have his wonderful tube amps just the same.
I really like what Lefty Strat is saying, and thanks for reminding me to check out Moon Duo. You seem to really know what's going on in the underground d music scene, and I'm glad you're here.

Re: RCH us made tubes?
From what I hear in these various metal genres, there's no need for great tubes. The second world stuff will suffice. And having and old RCA plant and tube recipes is a start, but a large part of what made the old RCA tubes the shizzle was the time spent drawing hard vacuums, and the purity of the materials. No expense was spared to get the best product for the Defense Dept. I'll take NOS all day long.

The best made US tubes were during the cold war, submini missile tubes.
