The Detergents - Leader of the Laundromat

The most spiteful song I have ever heard. It blames the listener.

I believe this is a performance of historical importance in 1972. Even better, I was there. The Allman Bros Band headlined a billing at the Hofstra University Playhouse for what I believe was the first "Don Kirshner's Rock Concert" that aired on one of the major networks, reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don_Kirshn ... ck_Concert.

(Aside: I think it was ABC, and they simulcast it on FM. In NY, you could tune to WPLJ -- the ABC radio affilate -- and listen on your stereo while you watched.)

The band had been through a dark and difficult transition after Duane's tragic death. At first it appeared they had broken up, but there must have been some magnetic force that kept them together. This was an important re-incarnation of the band. In Duane's absence, Berry was reportedly depressed and his playing had gone so far downhill the band contemplated replacing him. This show (actually 5 numbers, but I can't remember what's missing, maybe Cross/Blackhearted and Eliz. Reed) introduced Chuck Lavelle, and I'm reasonably certain Dicky (how it is spelled on the Idlewild South and in the early days) announced it was the first public performance of Ramblin' Man. It's my thought that Chuck somehow re-invigorated the band and Berry's bass playing got back on track. Look how Dicky and Berry trade licks on One Way Out and generally how he kicks butt on Whipping Post.

Hey Joe,

Yeah, before I retired last November, I bought a small bi-level home just North of Denver, and planned to move there sooner, but it got hit by the floods and I didn't have flood insurance (it hadn't flooded in that area before) :x

So we kept our Florida house until I could fix the Denver house up. I worked on it for 5 months this year, including cutting down a 60-foot tall Spruce tree.

Now that it's livable, I came back to FL to get this house ready for sale in Feb or March. That's why I'm trying to sell most of my heavy amp stuff - my back is tired!

Here's our little piece of heaven - it's not a craftsman-style bungalow like we first wanted, but Denver housing costs 2x what it does in Florida!

If you like the blues, I mean the real thing, here is some pristine footage from the early 60's with excellent audio, professional shot for broadcast in the UK. Smokin' band backing a lineup of famous people.

Its like these guys have been watching my life for the last 20 years and wrote a song about it,. Except I seriously doubt that Walmart would hire me. Maybe they'll start writing happier songs http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xeYGo33_wkY
