With good strong output tubes my 67 Bandmaster with its stock 35 watt OT will do 42 clean watts, but as is the case with all Blackface Fenders and may others, when played above 4 or 5 they pass too much Bass out of the PI through those big coupling caps!
It got to the point that on my 76 proreverb I pulled out the number two input jack and installed a three step rotory switch for changing the cathode bypass cap from the stocker 25 uf, to 5 and then .68 uf!
This lets the amp have the great bottom that ya love at low volumes and no fartyness when cranked up pretty much!

I "switch" it up on Fendery builds but lately I've been diggin .47, 1, 10 on an on-off-on spdt.
