Schematic request - Blackstar Stage HT-60
I've got one of these on my bench right now with two roasted resistors. Does ANYONE have a schematic for it? Blackstar won't release them to anyone except their authorized repair centers.

Re: Schematic request - Blackstar Stage HT-60
What are the resistor numbers on the board,I can pull one apart at work today if we have one and let you know?
My guess would be that since the amp uses el34 output tubes that the two 1k 3 to 5 watt screen grid resistors off of pin 4 of each output tube have gone south due to bad output tubes, it could also be that the Filiment section of the power supply uses two 100 ohm 1/2 to 1 watt resistors as a fax ground, which once again these would have failed due to shorted output tubes.
What voltage do you have at the powered end of each resistor?
I will pm you my phone number if you care to call me latter.

Thanks Steve. I'll take some pictures tonight and post them.

Here ya go. I emailed Korg for schematics, we'll see what they say if they respond.

R165 does not look too far gone for a metal film type resistor and if you lift one leg of it you can likely still get a good reading from it, but r171 is a gonner!
The next question is what circuit are these in and why did they let the smoke out?
I will try to open up a amp for you today!

Re: Schematic request - Blackstar Stage HT-60
I stopped at the shop today and they are trying to get a schematic from Korg through their distributor. I told them I can trace the circuit but it would take quite a bit of time and we don't know yet what made the resistors overheat.
One looks like it might be part of the bias circuit but I'm not sure without pulling the board.

Sorry, I could not make time to pull one apart yesterday, but I will get to it today.
Do either of those resistors have a negative voltage on either side of them?

You should call blackstar in the U.K.
They will be happy to give any of the values you need.

I don't know Steve, the way it hums I really don't want to power it up again right now and chance burning something else up.

Well the amp I was gonna peer/look into for you got shipped to one of the two other stores in the chain I work for, so for now I can not help you out!

Thanks anyway Steve, I don't understand why they make it so hard for us to keep their crap running when it's out of warranty.

I know, it's not like the schematic will not end up on the web at some point anyway!

Re: Schematic request - Blackstar Stage HT-60
I'm tempted to trace the board anyway and not charge them for that time, just to get the amp fixed but there are tiny surface level parts that are impossible to identify so it might just be an exercise in futility.

Humour intended so don't get affended!
Why don't they just release the schematic? This question from a site that specializes in dissecting for the purpose of plagiarizing and improving upon a hard sought after and costly design investment in time and money?
And then the independents building the product at cost and competing with the original designer...
I can understand why they don't just release a schematic. Just a thought too,.. How many engineers do you think peruse these boards in an effort to come up with a design as their own skills are "lack luster"???
I do recall an incident and I don't remember where it was but I remember an incident where an amp building community began to come up with a design and all of a sudden the design group went Dark. Not sure what ever happened to the design but it seems to me the design ended up a Marshall or something like that.... Urban Legend?
Pay close attention now- I don't agree with that philosophy in it's entirety. If it were I, the schematic would be released say after 1 year. And authorized service centers would be about service and support rather then making money by selling "Authorizations"
I say compete on quality of support and product. Personally I wouldn't worry about the Boutique Amp and independent amp building community if I were say a Bogner ore Marshall.
As for the Manufacturing community- They deserve the stiff competition, as small as it is, from independent builders if for no other reason than the many instances of ripping off the consumer with cheap product components and poor quality of workmanship.
Now let me ask a question: If you came up with say a Uberschall Amp design and had the ability to get fat rich off it, would you release the schematic to the general amp building community so that say a Line6 could compete with you?
That's what the Fox says.

Re: Schematic request - Blackstar Stage HT-60
I'm not advocating anyone "rip off" someone else's work, but as long as manufacturers are willing to provide support and schematics, their equipment will last much longer and stay in the hands of players rather than end up in landfills. It also helps us as musicians to improve a product that again, will end up being played instead of sitting in a closet or going to the junkpile. Doing otherwise is like saying a third party supplier can sell replacement parts, but don't you dare sell a kit to make an amp like X.
Having said that, no boutique amp maker can compete head-on with major manufacturers, they just don't have the means as has been discussed here and on other forums several times by those that were or are in the business and have that detailed information.
As far as copying someone else's work, were you maybe thinking of Jim Marshall doing so with Leo Fender's original designs? Hm.
I know you weren't talking about me, but my only goal in reverse-engineering or tracing a layout for a schematic is to be able to provide service to others that a manufacturer won't. In the case of Blackstar, they refuse to provide these resources knowing their equipment will be thrown away because there either aren't any service centers in a geographic area or that it's far too expensive to ship the amps to an authorized service center. Is that good business? Hardly. They may (and it's debatable) sell a quality sounding product, but the inability to get them serviced will kill the brand in the future. I guarantee it.
