Started in on a 50W build today. The idea is a Naylor voiced preamp and presence, with parallel input stages, switchable for jumpered plexi with paralleled input stages there, too. Bells and whistles to follow.
I'll be using Colossal's great relays for the double parallel switch, and for 2 masters for solo boost. http://www.colossalamps.com/DIY.html

The 470k/470p on the switch between V1a & V1b will not work. When you throw the switch there is a direct contact leaving the resistor/cap useless.

Shorting accross the cap/res is exactly what I wanted for the straight Naylor mode, as they have no fixed dividers, just pot to grid. The other pole(s) grounds out the bass channel .
When the switch is in the "up" position, the bass and treble channels are paralleled , and the res/cap becomes a mix resistor for the traditional 470k//470p, 470K. I put a "?" there, as I may go 270Ks, given the 56K/220p stack.
Also, relay 1 and 2 will be linked to trigger at the same time, but you could do it all on a 3PDT panel switch. For anyone looking for that switch that's not of the tiny melty variety, it's NKK S32. Cheapest I found was $8 at Newark.
Ultimately I decided to put it all on the floor, as with the master volume switch, it'll all go on a generic 2 button footswitch, with simple SPSTs on the panel.

what are the origins of that 10n , 150K boost circuit on the treble pot? I don't recall seeing that before. Is that a boost in the form of increased mids?

Yes, that boosts the mids/high mids. I took in a busted Peavey Windsor a few weeks ago, and modded it all over to hot rod JCM800 type thing, but I kept that boost circuit, as it sounded nice. Usually I just parallel caps in for a boost, and just over the treble cap, but this one connects to the treble wiper, which I imagine would change the response dependent on the treble setting...I haven't completely tried to analyzed this difference yet.jhaas wrote:what are the origins of that 10n , 150K boost circuit on the treble pot? It actually seems to be always in the stock configuration, but with a 470K to ground, hindering it's effect, and then puts the 470K across the MV, when the boost is engaged...I think..it's drawn kinda screwy.
This same type thing works great in Fenders. I usually do 1200p series 47K across the 250p and call it FAT

I have a build in the tweaking stage that the customer requested a lead boost. Wanting to make it variable I put a boost pot wired as a variable resistor "under" the volume pot, to ground. Well... that didn't give me what I was looking for at higher volume settings, and since the one half of the boost relay is unused, I thought I'd use it to switch in a mid-boost with it. I was planning on the parallel treble-cap thing as you mentioned, but maybe I'll give this a try.

You switch out the wipers, and grounds if you are concerned with loading. That AND the mid boost on the same rlay would be quite a kick. Then, if you had both MVs set the same, the effect would be just the mid boost.

this is a two channel amp, each with its own MV set up as you describe. I could continue the concept with a third paralleled volume pot and have the boost only apply to the dirt channel, but I'd really like to have the variable boost work with both channels. I'll report back with the results.
