Extracting the overdrive channel from a multi-channel amp.

Post by mrbadwr3nch »

This is a little convoluted. There is a local amp company that was sold to a friend that wants to take the flagship model head which is PC board, reverb, channel switching, effects loop, etc. and extract just the overdrive section, ditch all the extras, and handwire it. I have the complete schematic but this is over my head. I'm trying to get in touch with someone that is capable of doing this and figure out what it is going to cost.

Any ideas?

I could probably redesign this amp for you. 65 dollars an hour is my rate (plus materials if I have to build the prototype).
What?

I can build the prototype given a layout. Can I send you the schem and maybe get an idea of the time/cost and chat about the process a little?

Hi,

Just stopping by to put in a good word for Jana! (If that's even necessary...)

Here is the schem.

I tried pm-ing it to you but apparently, it's too large.

Now, nobody steal the circuit, go into mass production and take away all the profits;-)

Lol. There's a lot of fat to be trimmed.

I guess I should have stated the plan- Ditch the; reverb, effects loop, switching, clean channel, everything that isn't the overdrive channel and power section. Controls-gain,TMB, level.

Understood. Good call.

Determine what positions you prefer for the various switching options and that'll make it easier.

After you trim all that, what's left? :P

No switching. One channel. No clean sound. The idea is for it to be the dirty amp in a multi-amp rig.

I doubt it will sound the same without the interaction of the trimmed fat...

Well, you're right obviously. But, hopefully, once the fat is gone, it'll sound better and if not, tweaking will commence.

This is just my opinion but instead of trying to remove all the extra, I'd start with the output section and build a pre-amp that suited my tastes.
