Toggle recommendations please
I've been using some cheapie $2.00 toggles that just aren't worth the headache anymore. The solder lugs come loose really easily, and many out of the box were like this.
Does anyone have any 1/2" toggle recommendations, preferably from Mouser? The bigger he solder lug hole the better!
Thanks.

Carling is the name that comes to mind as the be-all, end-all in quality switches. Of course, whether they make 'em like they used to, I don't know. They can be pricey.
I actually found some nice mini-toggles on eBay for a very reasonable price. YMMV.

Ya can't use more than a 30 watt iron on them and a 25 is even safer, and even than the switch and the wire need to be tined well, and also non leaded solder takes more heat and does not flow as well making things even more likely to screw up on ya!
Another thing to consider is the dc voltage and current.
Many times I will use a DP type switch where I only need a SP type just so I can parallel both sides and get more current handling and longer life from dc pitting the contacts!

I've never killed a switch soldering, what I meant what the little rivet that holds in the solder lug comes loose. Like I said, some of these particular switches came that way.Stevem wrote:Ya can't use more than a 30 watt iron on them and a 25 is even safer, and even than the switch and the wire need to be tined well, and also non leaded solder takes more heat and does not flow as well making things even more likely to screw up on ya!

I use C&K when I can find them! Great quality and can actually take a little heat before they fail. I avoid Mountain and other cheapie brands at all cost. Carling's are nice as well.

I use the Mountain mini toggles and those are fine. I think they are the Mouser brand like Xicon. The ones I'm using are way crappier the Mountain ones
Re: Toggle recommendations please
So I tried the suggested CK 633-S6A-RO toggles, but they are relatively stiff to switch.
Any other recommendations besides Carling that switch without feeling like I'm breaking something? I've actually had some switches in the past that were so hard to switch the plastic body shattered on a couple when flipped!

Re: Toggle recommendations please
Are we talking about Mains and HV B+ toggles or small signal toggles? Not clear to me.
For power switches the Carling Fender style toggles are still good quality and I use nothing else but Carling on those.
The small signal toggles vary a hell of a lot more and there is some real junk out there. I use Parts Connection DPDT, $2.00 each and have not had any problems with them. I think if you put the heat to them too long though they will all misbehave eventually.

Lately I've been using PCB mount minis from Mouser. The solder terminals are long, a bit farther apart than the lug ones, and the plastic body doesn't start to melt as quickly.
Re: Toggle recommendations please
I'm referring to the big ones 1/2" toggles. I'm curious about other options besides Carling.
