members builds in progress

Post by pedro »

Thought it would be good to have a thread to show progess on members individual builds and swap ideas/tips as builds progress.

Heres where I'm up to on my version -

pre is V1a 220K/3.3K with 4.7uf bypass
V1b 150K/2.2K with 1uF bypass
V2a 22oK/3.3K/4.7uf
.01uf coupling into 100K attenuation resistor then 100K OD drive control
V2b 150K/2.2K/4.7uf

no post OD stack - but using .005 coupling cap after V2b feeding 150K resistor and 100K OD master.

I'm going to try bright and deep switches to start with and then add others later maybe.

Power tubes will be TAD STR 6L6's

left space to add a dumbleator style loop later .

I got loads of help from Bob I and Scottl on the ampage forum who have guided me in this direction.

Any feedback very welcome.
The chassis i smy test bed - once circuit is tweaked then I'm building a cosmetic version to full spec.

Regards
Pete

Damn pedro.. LOVE the heaters... twisted with a drill motor?

And right now my build still looks like a blackface bassman... havn't had the heart to gut it yet.. still trying to figure what layout to use...

Looking good Pedro.....

I have one that I'm starting out on, no pics yet, but here's a pic of my Crumble..... Dumble ckt in a Crate cabinet.

Image

The ckt is basically a Hybrid, 70's type with 90's values. I have a push-pull pot for deep and a bright switch. Switching is done via a Weber relay board with either the switch on the front or a footswitch. The current speaker is a 70's JBL D-120 with the silver done cut off and replaced with a paper dome.

The layout was posted by caglej here http://www.maximoaudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=395, the second one. I've stick with this layout but many component values have been changed and the trim pot is not mounted on the faceplate.

Here's a jam I did recently using a PRS 24 fret standard.

Thx to Pedro for pointing out this forum to me. I hope Howard doesn't see it and stop us from talking about his amps.

Here are a couple pics from a now completed build using Funks excellent chassis. I have replaced many of the caps, all OD225's now and altered many of the values for resistors and caps as well. There are ALOT of areas which can be tweaked to alter the amp. I followed the Hybrid A schematic for the preamp and used the 1997 power section substituting 100uF caps at Funks suggestion. The Bright switch, Deep switch and Rock/Jazz switch are on the front, OD and Boost switch are in the pedal (not in the pic). Sorry the pics are so big. If someone tells me a different way to post them I will.

Gary,
Very nice to see your work. Thankx for all your help. I couldn't have done mine without it. I'm curious what you are doing with your switches, specifically Fat, Voice, Shift, OD Fat, etc. I did not use a reverb or loop circuit but wish I had. Do you use the reverb from your site. Is the loop the dumbleator circuit. I am very interested in building one if it is useful.

great stuff - I am in the presence of very high quality.......makes me wish I'd started my build in the final chassis instead of experimenting , but I guess this wont be the last *umble build so at least I can mess freely with component swaps without worrying about messing up such clean internals.

I'm really interested in the *umbleator loop as well.
Ive left space and have LOTS of heater current headroom to be able to add the loop. I have the schem from blue guitar and wonder how accurate it is. see attached . I guess I wil have to add extra filter to decouple it from the preamp stages.

Any ideas on this - I want to be able to use outboard effects ideally rather than BOSS reverb pedal stuck in front ofd the amp ( which is not too bad at gigs at present )

One other thing - anyone in the UK on this forum ? - where do we get good quality solid core wire ?? I'm fed up with using stranded for my internal hook ups.

cheers

Hi Robert, glad you are making progress there on your amp.

As far as the switches they are very simple modifications to allow tailoring the amp to various era's of D-amp's. The Shift and Voice switches make changes to the overall voicing of the clean tone stack. The FAT and OD FAT controls effect the Clean and OD drive stages bass response by doing some slight tailoring of the bypass caps.

I do not use the Deep or Jazz/Rock configurations, just never warmed to their sound.

Yes the reverb is a slightly modified version as to the one on the site. The only change is that I added an extra resistor to tweak the dwell of the reverb. I used the long delay tank and it was a bit over the top. I want to try a 4 series tank to see how they sound.

Yes this loop is very similar. A couple of minor changes, but nothing to major.

WOW, you guys set the bar high!!!!!

Whos trim pots are you guys using?
And Glasman, how are you mounting those relays to the eyelet board? They look so neat and orderly. Now I know what my amp needs to look like!

Pots - Piher (the best I have found, reliable)

Relay - Like this.....

Each pin goes through a reverse mounted eyelet. Then I solder the relay to the eyelet.
