TDS 1326 OT

Post by dartanion »

Anyone use one before? Can't find it online either.

This or a Ceriatone Wreck OT in an Express?

It has gray bell covers with one side that extends out further than the other. Also not sure of the wiring on this unit:

white, yellow, orange, red, blue, green, and black leads.

this is a transformer that **I** had made by tds a couple yrs back. certainly you can use it for an express if you want but it's not the stancor wind that kf uses and it's not buttstacked laminations. it has a 5k pr. and m6 steel and is the same stack thickness ( 1 1/4") as the express style trannies. it was/is intended for some of my vox ac30/4 builds-----it sounds killer with a single ef86 section driving the p.i. the codes are standard tds fare:
pri----ct is red, plates yel and white
sec---0 = black, 4 = or, 8 = gr, 16 = blue

How does it sound when compared to a Ceriatone Wreck OT? I have those 2 to chose from. Need to wrap up that build tomorrow.

i've never had the need to use any ceriatone trannies so i couldn't say about them---don't know about the steel, the lam orientation or the wind. since the tds trannie was not intended to be for twreck use i would probably stick with nik's trannie and use the tds for a vox style build, or maybe something like a dr z stangray or rx es, or even a 4-6v6 amp using a similar preamp style.

btw, did you get this trannie directly from bill at tds or buy it from someone i sold one to? rh

Liverpool with 7591A SE/PP up next.

I've got 4 Oversized Wreck blanks. A whole mess of transformers and chokes. Tubes, resistors, need more electrolytics and more G10.

I'll try the Ceriatone on my Express build which is shortly behind the Liverpool I just finished. Picky little bastard tubewise. I tried all sorts of startup tubes, but it oscillated wildly. I messed with for hours, chop stix, resolder, redo some things, miove some others, futz with the NFB, swap OT leads for an uncontrolable WWWWWWWWWWAAAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

that wasn't it....

Finally I start swappingf tubes around with known good tubes, a couple new tubes, still no dice. So I finally stick a matched quad of new prod Mullard EL84s and boom, it's quiet and the oscillation is pretty much gone from what I can tell. Wife is sleeping so I can't crank it. Promising start for these tubes. Just got them Thursday.

We're the microphonic tubes JJ's? I had a bad one out of the box.

The startup tubes were used Sovteks. They work, but are mismatch. Just there for startup. The new tubes seem to be working well.

I just got a shipment with the new Mullards, Sovtek EL84Ms, and JJs. I will be comparing them all soon.

Since I had to miss the Amp Show this weekend, I thinking of arranging an Amp Fest locally soon. Maybe a tube shoot out is in order!!
