Tweed D Deluxe
Here's my take on the latest in the Dumble land. Thanks to Charlie Wilson and to all who have contributed so far.
Ebay chassis 5E3 chassis, 4 inputs into 68k so I can jumper the inputs preamp tubes mounted with grommets (thanks Steve)
MC tweed deluxe iron
715 caps
Mixed .5-1 watt resistors
Just finished and it passed the smoke test. Burner tubes and I haven't measured any voltages any voltages.
Played that amp as it is for about an hour, pretty awesome sound. With humbuckers there's not much clean with the guitar volume past 6 but I don't think this amp is about the cleans. Nasty, bluesy, lots of sustain, very rich tone lots of harmonics, great on the "pinch"
Cabinet will come in about a week, I have a nice Vintage 30 to try!

Still waiting on my PT's to show up. However, it's turned in to builds now, waiting on machine shop to drill them all.

Is this amp so unique to a full blown ODS amp that it is worth building?

Don't let that smoke out!

Re: Tweed D Deluxe
No one seems to risk posting clips, so I ordered a chassis and transformers and will be building it just for the sake of hearing it

Look's fantastic Eric.......... Choice parts clean and tidy build.
And to all you Nay Sayers out their build one yourself and find out.
Just think how many hit songs have been recorded on the Fender 5E3 platform.
Steve.

Re: Tweed D Deluxe
Hey Steve,
It is just about the opposite...

Give me a picture of an amp, couple of people that like it - and I am ordering the parts
I wanted to change something and at least start whining for sound clips, prior to taking the plunge... no luck

I now have between 12 and 14 amps (stopped counting at around 7, but there are heads, combos and unboxed chassis everywhere. I am, however, sure there are people with more that makes me think I am still sane). And always manage to tweak them so I find something that I love about the particular amp and can't part with it.
Yeah - my better half is looking at me like - "are you sure you need another one?", "sure, honey, this one is special, Steve said it's great"
And that's besides me already having a 5E3 that I love...
The only not so great thing is that it takes quite a bit for most of the parts to get here, but - I'll have my trafos arriving in 10 days and the party will begin.
This board and you great people are so inspiring.
Thank you
Niki

Re: Tweed D Deluxe
Ahhh, who cares if it sounds good? This is the internet -- as long as it looks cool it is all good.

NIKI, I don't care to hijack Eric's thread on his build. And as far as sound clips I have never listened
to one that convinced me to build any amp. The sound clips I do have are the stage monitor mix
not the main's mix. I will not post the monitor mix clips they are not a good representation of this build.
Steve.

Re: Tweed D Deluxe
Thanks for the compliments!
Next step is to measure the voltages, I'll do that this weekend see if I'm in the ball park.
The cabinet will be here within a week or so going to pair it with a Vintage 30.
That said, how it does it sound? Think plug and play rather plug and tweak for ten minutes as with a ODS. Very different with single coils (cleaner) versus humbuckers (overdrive) and it's loud. Speaker choice as a dramatic impact.
I hear the requests for clips and as always the issue mains time and technology more than willingness.

Re: Tweed D Deluxe
Fair enough. But in words, how does it sound? Why do you like it? How is it different than a stock 5e3? Enquiring minds want to know!67plexi wrote:NIKI, I don't care to hijack Eric's thread on his build. And as far as sound clips I have never listened
