I've got a 1963 WEM control ER15, it's a 2 EL84 head, basically the Dominator circuit, minus tremolo, in a head form. Its a very nice harmonically rich amp clean and cranked, through a Celestion G12M or Blue has the sweetest distortion, very Marshall 18 watt.
It's got 4 of the dreaded black Hunts caps (0.002uF) in it, all of which are cracked, the amp works OK, but going to change them and thought I'd download the schematic .. see below. (V1 and 2 are 12AX7, V3&4 EL84, V5 EZ81)
So my question is ... from the schematic, would you expect both channels in the amp to be in phase? I'm no expert in these matters, but they look identical to me ... however, they operate out of phase with each other. I know this because my old ES-345 with its magnetically out of phase pickups plays in phase with the stereo output into each channel i.e. each pickup in a separate channel and with both pickups selected on the guitar, they are in phase. Would like to improve my knowledge and know what I'm missing in the circuit that makes them out of phase?
Many thanks

Re: Old WEM Phase question
No I would expect the 2 channels to be opposite phase.
2 preamps much the same, each feeding one side of the phase splitter, that is, one going in the "+ve" input and the other going in the "-ve" input of teh phase splitter.
Cheers,
Ian

Re: Old WEM Phase question
Thanks Ian, still not sure I understand as each channel runs it own 12AX7; one side preamp second side phase inverter.
Best go and do some basic reading!
