Pretty much think the Allied Forces all had some pretty incredible leaders, for such a difficult time.
I also wonder how on the brink we are for the next one. WWI was an unlikely sequence of fairly innocent events. Things much less alarming than what is happening in the Ukraine.

It was a mans war. The enemy were often in equal numbers, and equipped with weapons as good or better than your own.
June 6 came off better than Eisenhower and The Allies could have privately hoped for.
Think of yourself at 19-23 years of age. Can you picture yourself leaving home...going 10k miles away...and fighting an unknown enemy...often on their turf.?
Christ...think about being a member of the USAAF. It is 1943, you have to fly 25 missions, and attrition is 2%...your life just became a coin toss.
I tip my hat to all those guys.
Some got killed on their first day...nameless to The World...and others somehow survived North Africa, Italy, Normandy and The Ardennes.
No guided missiles, no GPS, no Kevlar Helmets.
Some ran from battle, some died, some won medals, and a lot came home and never said a word.

Thank God for the Russians.....they tore the heart and soul out of The German Army.
It was an amazing time that we hope to never experience again.
I'll thank neither God for the Russians nor the Russians themselves. If Stalin didn't make a pact with Hitler for Poland and non aggression, the war most likely wouldn't have happened and DDay wouldn't have been needed. Stalin is the biggest mass murderer in the history of the world and Russia was not a true ally of the US. They were a necessary evil. So fuck the Russians.
I'm thanking and honoring the greatest generation of Americans and their TRUE allies. I won't attempt to name them because someone will feel left out.

You can say that about anybody.
If the Allies and the Versailles Treaty...disaster of Munich...If we had not totally used and sold out Poland there never would have been a Cold War...Truman never should have been in The White House, etc etc.
History happened the way it did.
The Russians could been overrun in 1939 and all the Wehrmacht and SS would have been on the beach in 1944. Would there have been a June 6 1944 if The Russians had not stalled for time.
We all made pacts with Hitler. Czechoslovakia.....
There is no end to what Could Have/Should have happened.
It does not detract from what anybody did to muster the courage for June 6.

we can go back even further and make the " if the posh douchebags from all around the world ( mostly from non fascist regimes ) didn't funded nazi regime's full-scale military reindustrialization ... a whole generation wouldn't have had to die and starve at all " statement .... political leader's don't give a shit about the courage of their men , they just pawn them ...the same everywhere ...i mean courage is a nice value right , but if only we could put back intelligence 's worth into everyone's mind more often ...
