Hello every one!
I recently bought a used head version of this amp.
So far I like the tones I have been getting from it.
But I have noticed some noise from it.
It has a built in power attuenator, it makes noise when the attuenator is at the 3:00 position to full power.
The amp has a high and low power setting, but it only makes the noise on the high power setting.
It's hard to explain the noise, it's kind of a fuzzy radio static, it's not real loud but it's definitely there.
I did try another 6v6 tube in it but it didn't make any difference.
It has 2, 12ax7 but haven't changed them out yet.
Just wondering if a anyone might have any ideas on what it could be,
I would really appreciate your input.

Can you find a schematic to post up for us?

Lots of stuff about this amp here: http://robrobinette.com/Special6UltraMod.htm The power attenuator is a power scaling (voltage) control.

I will do some searching, and see if I can figure something out.

If it's a fuzzy distortion that gets more prominent as a note being played fades away, then you have a bad preamp tube as my first guess.

Re: VHT special 6 ultra question
I had some trouble with mine... Similar to what you are talking about. I found a bad IEC socket. Once I replaced that the problem went away... Kinda weird. The noise was intermittent and I discovered it by accident when I bumped the cord at the socket. I noticed the noise got worse and stopped when I seated the cable firmly.
That may not be it but it is sure easy enough to check.
Btw...the link above it's full of good mods... Don't know about the wiring for the tone stack, mine was backwards when I did it the way he did it. Running all kinds of power tubes with adjustable cathode bias. Used an EL84 with the VHT adapter this weekend. Totally digging this amp!
