Sorry I've got to correct you Lefty - No circuit should be patentable. Some clowns (and we know the most famous one) have gotten away with it somehow.

Oh, and Ceriatone's version of the SSS.
I know the C-tone SSS and have worked on a few and they are OK..I can honestly tell you that the info here on 002 is a much better amp and the one I would choose any day of the week!!!!!
Mainly due to CF driver and the reverb mixer.. The driver actually runs the amp closer to AB2..Driving the output section into grid current is a totally different animal in tone and feel and power..IMO gotta have it to complete the SSS vibe....YMMV!!

Agree with this 100% The C-tone SSS is a copy of the Two Rock Custom Clean, which is a fairly loose copy of SSS#4 (among other things, it is missing one tube in the mixer circuit). It is a nice amp, but it isn't anything special. The reverb is weak and, without the CF driver, it really doesn't sound or feel like true SSS.

Personally in the case of the SSS..Let's face it, it's a pretty complex amp to build and not for the faint of heart or the averge joe amp builder!!..I don't think Ceriatone sells a kit for that amp to the general public and I don't blame them!!..I wouldn't even put it in the same build class as the Rocket or any Trainwreck amp for that matter!..The SSS info has been available for over a year now and I don't see very many pics of home builders here building them, Iv'e even had a few in that were attempted..I think in the case of the SSS it's been where is the info?..Then when it finally came people were like WOW!! when can I find time and money and can I build one  and do I really need a 150w guitar amp?

Kudos to those who have built them!!

The UP is a cool amp but IMO nothing special (unlike SSS or ODS) I get just as much enjoyment playing my Fralin or my Super, and those have reverb!!

Funny thing I remembered when I was rereading this thread... this elderly gentlemen from the golden days of the tube amp kinda got me started by giving me a box of parts and an RCA tube manual. He said something to the effect of you'll find the root of anybody's tube amp in this book. If you consider that and give Leo Fender and his crew credit for doing the heavy lifting on tone circuit development, it's interesting that both of those companies gave away schematics ... and were very successful. I know it was a different world back then and I don't pretend to understand how all that worked out the way it did, but it's curious???

And the percentage of homebuilders to amp buyers is so small it doesn't make a difference. All the builders here could not put out what Marshall does in a day. We are 'small change" to amp companies...
In theory, theory is the same as practice. In practice it's different.

This statement is not true for everyone!!

Having been in the inner circle most people really do want to share to the DIYer..They just don't want it posted on the web for the entire world to see...There is a BIG difference!!!...If it's a design they came up with and are selling the amps commercially and it's putting food on the table and clothes on their backs it's not about ego it's about survival (I know I did it for a living)...If it's just a hobby to them, then that's different..You cannot throw everyone into the same boat
After I did all the ODS layouts people started sending me all kinds of cool things for more layouts and if I ever need help with anything I have a pool of people who are willing!!..It's GREAT!! ..That's how it works here..I didn't have much in the way of Dumble info but I offered my Visio skills and many people rewarded me for it ..Instead of expecting the info to come to you, offer up something (NOT just pass the info) everyone has something they can offer...Then the info will come and this will be a place more known for it's sharing instead of taking...There I said it!!

Seems like kids these days expect everything to be handed to them on the web..IMO..stifles there creativity

The majority of what I know about guitar tube amps came from you guys and gals (Jana) and I am very appreciative of all that you have contributed on The Ampgarage. Thank you. :)

I'm firmly in the "I'll never build for commercial purposes" camp. I build for my own learning, and to make a few friends happy. But I'm dedicated to learning all I can, and helping when I can make a contribution. M Fowler has helped me on several occasions, and I feel obliged to act in kind.

That said, if someone shares information, but asks me not to disseminate it or post it, I'm honor bound, in my mind, to follow their wishes. Besides- I prefer lower wattage amps, and simple circuits that sound great. A complex, multi-channel, 150 watt amp just doesn't interest me. And that guy who tries to patent everything? My theory is he owns the company that sells switches to the amp company, and that's where the REAL money comes from! Yes, I'm a horrible and venal person...
