What is a Mega Plex?

Post by Mark »

I've heard the term "Mega Plex" before but I can't say I've ever heard it defined.

What exactly is a Mega Plex, is it a modded Marshall or a ODS variation?

I have done a search on Mega Plex, but I saw things like a Ripper OD with a tone stack and other different variations. Nothing that seemed worthy of the term MEGA.

I think the Mega Plex refers to the overdrive circuit in the Ripper. I read somewhere that it had a tone stack driven by a cathode follower, but I can't seem to find that reference.

The Mega Plex meant it was supposed to sound like the ultimate plexi.

There are two "items" called the "Megaplex" one is a mod/tuning found on marshall circuits. The other is the OD of a Ripper HRM.

There's another thread where someone who has apparently seen the circuit mentions that it's phase is different than other Dumble amps, which suggests a single overdrive stage followed by a CF, followed by the tone stack.

It apparently doesn't have the same amount of gain in the OD as other amps. I wonder if you used the second gain stage and CF from a Marshall if that might not get you close.

I read all the threads and posts I found and came up with this. I don't know how close it is. Comments?

the 1968 transformers V-1 is not what you would think
same with the filter board. By the way I was accused of braking in
a house and taking measurements of the amp good luck on that one.
I just used math with load line curves. At first I thought I had discovered
a original design no so. After word got out in the real Dumble amps
owners circle it was confirmed and they asked me not to give out the information.
In return I have been given insider information. This is what it looks like.
Well at least we now have a pic of the amps exterior and a story for cozy nights in front of the open fire

Do you have a clip of your amp? I would really appreciate to hear your best sounding amp so far.

I really respect what ic-racer and Aaron and others are doing. They take their precious time to cook up something from blurry pics and tidbits of info and then they geniunely share their work.

Do you have any clearer picture, from what I see the amp is short one control. What about pictures of the back of the amp?

I was just commenting on the earlier quote about having information and not divulging it. You can be sure that if I had something to tell, I would come right out with it. I certainly would not tease anyone about having secret information. When I had SSS information, I posted it. What's the point of telling anyone that you have information, but will not divulge? Does it make the secret keeper's shallow ego feel more important? It makes me feel quite the opposite.

The end result is that I think a lot less of 67Plexi, FWIW.

Well I guess you are right in the past I was annoyed by such things but I'm over it these days.

As far as withholding info goes, I was in the same situation with Rooster, he was calling for real Rocket shots. I have a couple which I promised not to show, BUT there isn't anything new in the shots I have, both amps are exactly the same as Allyn's Rocket. If I could have helped I would have and there is nothing to be gained by posting the shots, Allyn's shots are the business.
