The bay area would be so much cooler if it wasn't so expensive.

Cool article, and cool amps.

You should make T-shirts that say "one less Peavey 400"!

Great article! Nice to hear such a success story from a TAGster. Those amps are gorgeous!

I had thought "Milkman" was referring to the Blues connotation of the milkman....
Don't you boys know any NICE songs?

Nice article. We're driving up to San Fran for the weekend. Would have been nice to catch one of your bands while we were in town.

Very cool! Nice to see you living the dream! Making money at playing and building amps!

So, did your specific Steel Guitar expertise open up that market specifically to you as well? I imagine being such a respected player lends itself to contacts and trust within that specific community as well.

Curiosity makes me wonder what style of amp you ended up doing to suit your specific "steel" needs. The steel world has always intrigued me, and I have so much respect for you guys, but I feel like most of the skills are way over my head. I imagine that Steel players look for something along the lines of a SSS, but I've never really talked to a real player. What is it about most amps that just don't measure up for a typical Steel player? I just realized what a stupid question that could be, seeing as Steel players can vary in style just as much as all other electric guitar players... It's a whole world I don't know.

PS don't feel obligated to answer if that is special knowledge that directly affects your livelihood. I don't build amps for money myself, and will likely never meet a real steel player up here, but this is a public forum.

Way to go Tim!
And that's a pretty sweet looking gut shot there.
I can testify first hand, Tim makes a mighty fine amp, steel player or not.

Wow!! thanks all for the kind words!

My first amps were made for me - including a steel amp based off of a twin but with a few tweaks for more power, more appropriate midrange, and more "fi" as Frank Zappa would say. Choosing top shelf caps, transformers, etc helps. I've had good luck with my price point and quality.

My friend Max always asked why there was no cathode biased Princeton type amp and that's where my 20W came from. Just parking a few models in between Leo's models :)

I gotta give credit where it's due though - friends I've made on TAG have really helped with the head scratchers! :o
