That sounds awesome! How close is does it sound to an actual SD60? I had one but it's hard to tell from clips unless your A/B at the same time.
I have to get another one day.

That Naylor circuit has piqued my interest for quite some time.
Great fat tone there for sure. Good job!
Cheers Stephan

All I have for reference are the you tube clips.
But, I finally got the SD60 presence circuit to work without oscillating. I moved the components to the pot. It makes the amp sound thicker for sure. I will make a new clip later this week. Here are the final pics:

Can you post which schem you ended up using?
Is that solid core wire?

Re: SD60 build completed! Clip...
For the preamp, I used the older schematic dated 8-30-96, but I used dual 1M instead of dual 500K and used standard Marshall value pots in the tone stack (250K, 25K, 1M) and a 1M for the MV. The rest of the components are the values as indicated on the schematic.eddie25 wrote:Can you post which schem you ended up using?

From the effects return to the rest of the circuit (including the presence circuit) I used the Guytron faxed schematic dated 10-26-1998/9?
The only other deviation is the filtering. I used:
100uf - 100uf - 50uf - 50uf - 50uf
Of course, I used Onetics transformers, so those are slightly different:
Half wave rectified, no center tap on filaments. Unused 5V, 14v taps. I used a simpler bias circuit from the bias tap.
Wire is pre-tinned strand that I get from valvestorm. This is my favorite now...

I messed around with different values before I switched to a resonance and old school presence.fusionbear wrote:lgehrig4 wrote:That sounds awesome! How close is does it sound to an actual SD60? I had one but it's hard to tell from clips unless your A/B at the same time.

The Naylor presence circuit was cool but all the way up It sounded kinda weird made guitar sound like a horn or something
I also went with a single gain control and 100/50/32/16/16 filtering
Did you implement the bite switch?I didn't like the tonestack boost and I liked the cathode bypass on all the time so I took it out
Ive been having to much fun with mine running rack and pedal effects in the fx loop.
Your amp sounds killer nice chops to.I wish I could get someone who knows how to play on mine.

Re: SD60 build completed! Clip...
I did use the bite switch from the older schematic. Basically, all it does is add a .1 cathode bypass cap to V1b. The newer Presence circuit doesn't give me the horn type tone you are talking about. I did not use the tonestack boost, that is from the newer schematic which I didn't use for the preamp. I am happy with the amp as it is now. This is going to be my only OD amp from now on as I am selling my Carol Ann OD2. (Still unemployed and want to have a little more emergency cash on hand).cbass wrote:I messed around with different values before I switched to a resonance and old school presence.fusionbear wrote:lgehrig4 wrote:That sounds awesome! I was getting a touch of 60hz hum so I elevated the heaters 60vdc and it is quiet as a church mouse now...

Cant seem to find any dated schematics for this . The stompboxes site has removed them for some reason. Does anyone have a link or a copy they could email?

Re: SD60 build completed! Clip...
OK, I am finally done with this amp. It is the most tone satisfying overdriven amp I have ever built for myself. I will do some serious practicing now to get the most out of it and do it justice. I haven't been this happy about the way an amp sounds and responds in a long time.... whew!
Thanks to all of you who helped directly and indirectly!
