It's worse than that. Their sales site is down too, along with George's email.

I can't even imagine why anyone would go after such a docile and helpful site. It boggles my brain. I really don't know how they recover from this. It will have to be a fresh start.

George emailed me about it less than a week ago.

He's having a disagreement between the hosting site and the web designer on software compatibility, etc. George told them to figure it out or send him his money back.

My guess is that they're still figuring it out. You can always email George at his gmail address if you have questions. I'd imagine at this point he's about ready to kick the designer and the hosting site to the curb and start all over fresh. But as far as I've been told, this will get resolved soon.

Another one like this is WinHTTrack http://www.httrack.com/ . There are several freeware programs out there that are very effective. Using one is highly recommended if you maintain a website.

Here is a post from George.. This is really too Bad!!..Love that forum!

For those who care, the situation is not good. The server was infected by malware. It may have been a malicious attack and we are looking into that forenzically. The malware is so deeply embedded that they don't know if they can remove it, there's a distinct possibility that I will lose everything from over 10 years online. My entire web archive, forum, store, database and both websites could be gone. The longer this continues, the more likely it seems that it is lost.

I'll be the first to blame myself for not being better protected and fully backed up off site. It's 100% my own fault. I'm a complete internet neophyte and didn't comprehend the possibilities for loss or what steps should have been taken to prevent this catastrophie.

It makes me physically ill to think about all the info that may be lost from metro forum. So many amazing techs, tonal breakthroughs, passionate debates etc, including posts from people who are longer with us. Most of that can never be replaced. The forum was far bigger than me and metroamp, I feel like it was my responsibility to maintain and preserve it and I dropped he ball.
There's a chance that internet cache may have some of those pages saved and could be part of a painstaking start over from scratch.

For now, it doesn't look good but we are exploring every option and resource to recover as much as possible. I'll do my best to post updates.

How do I get in touch with George? As long as the database is preserved, I can adapt it to a new site. If it is Unix-based:

Postgresql:

pg_dumpall > backup.sql

MySQL:

mysqldump --all-databases > backup.sql

Then:

gzip --best backup.sql

I have 50G of cloud storage he could upload it to.

If it's a Microsoft product, I can't help. I don't do windows.

Wow what a mess.Im glad this site doesnt argue and bitch back and forth like litlle girls.

So ampbuilders were pissed off cause peoples builds were getting to good?
I see amature builds on here all the time that look and sound better than just about anything you can buy.

In the end there is way to many people trying to sell amps

Agreed, that's why I have always been afraid to jump into the market. There's too much competition in an already niche market and frankly it's too easy to get lost in the mix. Even if I can build something radically different, guitar players are such a weird and picky crowd that it would be too risky to dump a bunch of money into a new technology when you don't know how the market will react. Even if you get good reviews and such, the sales may not ever get to where you need them to be and you will be doomed from the start!

Awe those Marshall guys are always a little different. Probably why I'm getting funny too since I really enjoy the Marshall builds myself. :)

I would really love to build one with all the right caps, resistors, wire, and transformers but good lord that would expensive.

I did buy some pink wire recently.
