Dumpster Recovered Gibson EH-150 Results.

Post by Reli-Teli »

I'm new to the forum scene I looked and looked and couldn't find the thread. Anyways, as you can see from the photos I think the paint removal was a success. But I can also see why someone had painted over it. But now days an amp with that much "Character" isn't viewed upon as an eye sore. My friend invited my to his office at the local University and helped me make since of things as well as to spear head the repair service. And I am in love with this thing, she really packs a sultry smoothness that I did not expect but rather hoped for. We replaced the filter caps and all the caps on the exposed side of the board. I intend to go further with it in the future, the wiring needs attention. It's very hard, we wanted to replace the caps on the other side of the board. But we were prohibited by its rigidity. But for now me rikey...Next step I want to address the wiring and the other caps one of these weekends. I have two Eminence 12" speakers I want to restock the the field coil and the old radio speaker in the extension cab with. Don't worry I intend to keep the Field Coil Speaker on hand. Just unplug the field coil and run one speaker to the echo jack? Someone added another speaker jack at one point. And should I just run the other speaker to that Jack. Thank you everyone for your insight and encouragement, I can't remember the names however.

Nice work getting the paint off, much better than recovered. Looks like you need a handle:

Man some people have all the luck!

Curious about the field coil.

Did you check the voltages after disconnecting the coil?

You might need to add a choke in it's place to keep the voltages down.

Thank you, I think I did use too harsh of a stripper. I used Citri Strip, I wanted to use 3M Safest strip but not one store had it. I'm debating about filling in the pin striping and the Gibson logo with a paint marker. I might also lacquer over the whole thing the Citri strip got the original off. I'm going to have the Original Replacement handle rebuilt at Mennonite saddle shop for a couple dollars. I din't have all the luck my old man does, I was after him for 4 years to atleast turn it on. With anything I get from my old man it's a rescue mission because eventually its going to get ruined do to poor storage. It cost me an Epi BB King Lucille with a bigsby and OHC for it. I am completely in the dark about amp theory. I did learn something if I unplug the field coil the Rectifier tube wont engage. I suppose there's a conversion in order to use a modern speaker and the original plug. Anybody do that before?
