Andy, no problem. Let me explain:
FUCHSAUDIO wrote:I think Dumble could have crapped in a Bud box and people would fawn over it today like the hope diamond (even if it stunk).
Here you make fun of people - and on the brink of being offending - who by whatever reasons are intrigued by Alexander Dumble's gear. And this is rather weird IMO.

Why? AFAIK yourself, your family and your employees can pay some of your/their bills because people like the members here are that much intrigued by the creations of Alexander Dumble and - to use your own picture - are intersted in your amps not at least because they perceive them to smell - some more, some less - similar to Alexander's "crap".

And that you opted to use the www.dumble.com webpage for your company and products IMO puts this contradiction in a nutshell. And obvious contradictions are the essence of humor. At least this was the opinion of another german: http://books.google.com/books?id=MqjOCr ... &q&f=false

FUCHSAUDIO wrote:I hardly "shit on Dumble" Tag. I hold in great respect what he accomplished, although much of it (as has been mentioned by others) was simply based on old Fender, Ampeg, The Radiotron Designers Handbook, and old Western Electric circuits. I never maligned what he did, ever. I think his treatment of customers was deplorable. I never denied my business' foundation started where he left off. If I learned anything from him, it's: build a solid product and treat your customers with total respect. I do find it funny when people fawn over things he made that are simply nothing more than repackaged Fender or Dynaco parts, but because they bear his name, they become "golden turds" imho.

I've evolved in my own direction, and never looked back. The world is already full of his so-called "friends" who dissed me (or attempted to), or shunned or avoided my products "out of respect for Dumble" and today play clones, or sent their amps to be cloned. Some are manufacturing solid state Wreck and D-Style amps...ironic ? Yup.

Don't become a hypocrite and slam me Tag. I never treated you nor your patronage with any less than total respect Tag. While I don't agree with what you think are good tones, I DO think you're a nice guy, a decent player, and should focus more on playing more guitar and less on keyboard. :)

The www.dumble.com story has been rehashed enough times in enough places that I won't slow down the web rehashing it here again.

No problems here Andy. I did not mean it to sound like I was "slamming" you. Again, I like you, and think you make great amps. The end. :D

I guess the big thing here is acknowledging where the designs and influence comes from.
Dumble.Plain and simple. If we start dissing his products we are maligning ourselves aren't we?
Two facts come to mind. Some Dumbles do sound spectacular and some don't.But the same goes for Fuchs amps. I don't go around saying things like "if Fuchs make an amp everyone bows down, even if it blows".
That kind of remark needs to be controlled even if it's totally true.Especially by an amp builder. It's just bad taste.A lot like saying Ceriatone's amps are inferior.Just not true. They are just cheaper to buy.World markets make North American builders scramble to do stuff that competes price-wise.
To all builder's out there: " build good sounding amps and leave the comments to the people who buy and play them".
This Dumble stuff is getting to be too much.

You would have made a good point in your post until you included the above statement, right. :?:

Yeah,you're right.
Although I don't say those things. It was only for descriptive purposes.
I retract it.Easy to say stuff you don't mean isn't it?

If we break down the different category's of opinions and where they come from..The three most popular being

Players approach..For those with a good set of ears and have a good understanding of the so called Dumble tone..But have no technical knowledge of electric circuits..

The Player/Tweaker s..Those who have a good set of ears and have some technological knowledge of electric circuits

And Amp manufactures or those with a good set of ears who have actually built many from the chassis up..

I notice that in talking with and going through some of those changes myself that the opinions very greatly between each group however those within the same group seem to carry basically the same opinions..There are of coarse certain exceptions..However in general this is what I notice...
Anyone else notice this or am I out to lunch?
All Comments about other amp makers aside..

Tony.

Hey...not to change the subject, but does anybody have a clue on the PI tail resistor in that last photo of the Odyssey posted by UHOP? I've got most of it and can guess most of what I can't see...but it'd save me a lot of time fooling around on that tail resistor. The standard Fender 22k (or standard Dumble 24k) seems kinda drastic on the load line, assuming that first tube is a 12AU7.

Also curious about what kind of 6L6s are in there...

Hi everyone,

I am the current owner of #009. And I'm looking into selling it.
If anyone is interested please PM me. I have it listed on reverb

Best,
Michael

Max wrote:Nice to meet a good old friend (and after all those years still with the same tubes!). It's a pity, that the original knobs have been lost. These have been more to my personal taste.

BTW: AFAIR #009 is a Dumbleland Special for bass, but with very nice guitar tones, too (I've never perceived that much of an important difference in a practical sense between those for bass and those for guitar anyway. But if you should have severe problems to play with an Alembic preamp into a Dynaco Mark VI, better stay away from those for bass!).

Great, great amps the Dumblelands. But you all will remember "Texas Flood" of course, that has been recorded with Jackson Browne's Dumbleland Special:

http://www.songarea.com/mc/3/stevie_ray_vaughan.html

More or less similar tone stacks as in the OD generation from the same time. Seven step filters, with inductor of course, and all the usual Dumbleland stuff. Transformers probably from out of a bass amp on the Woodstock main stage.

For the "original" sound I can recommend one or two of the Dumble 2x12" "folded horn" cabinets with two 12" JBL or Altec speakers (sorry, no picture at hand right now). Awesome! Fasten your third teeth!

Cheers,

Max

On the picture of the back you can see written: "Speakers 150W AVE"

So "100W" in the description might be a mistake.

Sorry if this has already been asked....

Any chance you'd be willing to take some pictures of the inside of the amp so we can have a look see?

I don't believe we have any documentation for this type of amp. It sure would be a great addition to the knowledge base on the forum...

If it's all stock it would be a good selling point too, wouldn't it?
