My buddy at work hooked me up with 5 (two matched pairs and a single) metal-bottle 6L6s, aka VT-115. Used, but test strong, early 1940's MilSpec production.
I tested them in one of my amps (the Roadhouse--kind of a cathode bias bassman kinda thing into a Tone Tubby). I didn't run them long, cus they have lower voltage ratings (My Roadhouse amps run 400 plate/395 screens).
On the data sheets for these old 6L6s (as originally introduced in 1935) it lists a SE amp as having up to 11 % even harmonic distortion. To me, that sounds like an awfully enticing pair to an Express-style preamp. Very creamy and rich, I would think. So it's got me thinking.....
Any thoughts?

My MiniWreck is a SE Express, and it can take a 6V6, 6L6 or EL34 in the octal socket, ort an EL84 in the 9-pin socket (one at a time of course). A big coke bottle 6L6 is one of my favorites in that amp.
